Yolk still out side some

Is it normal for a chick to be born with a little yolk still attached. This is day 18/19 sat is day 21 from what I think is one of the smallest eggs I had of the original 35 eggs. I didn't mess with it because I was afraid to introduce any germs since I'm guessing there will be an open wound type deal with yolk still out side some. Here is a pic . This chick hatched at 0212 7/5/2013. The wife even stayed up to watch it hatch so let me know if this is bad or good so I can break it to her as needed.



This is my first hatch so a complete loss to me if I should do anything. Please help.

a little of the yolk has since come off on its own and this chicken little is chirping up a storm.

Are you talking about the slimy string shown in the pic? That is "egg gunk" and perfectly normal. Nothing to worry about.

Ok thank you very much. I looked up a lot about the settings but not so much on the gunk that comes out I guess.
