One of my hens has stopped laying, which she does periodically, but I've been noticing what looks like yolk in her poops. Is this possible, and if so, does anyone have any idea what's going on? She's slightly less than her usual sassy self, but not terribly so.

What is she being fed?? Almost sounds like she's laying a shell less egg. I saw one of mine lay one and it looked like she was pooping!! Depending on the feed she might be lacking in calcium!! Make sure she's getting layer feed and free choice oyster shells!!

She's eating a high end layer feed, as well as grazing and table scraps. One of my other hens laid a shelless egg the other day (well, the shell was there, it was just a wrinkly weird little sac). I'm going to start feeding them oyster shells to see if that helps.

The reproductive tract and the GI tract empty into the same pouch before exiting the body (only one hole out of the chicken). So YES, poop can have egg material in it if the egg gets broken or is shell-less, and this is also why you will find eggs with poop on them sometimes....
