Firstly, I highly recommend BYC's sister sites if you're looking into homesteading:

• The Easy Garden - These folks know their heirloom seeds.
• Sufficient Self - More information on being self sufficient, DIY projects, etc
• Backyard Herds - Info on herd animals like goats, sheep, cattle, rabbits, horses, bees, you name it!

Hopefully BYC continues to serve as a way to increase knowledge of flock ownership and care. These folks are extremely helpful and quick to respond.

As for homesteading- I personally say focus on creativity and being resourceful. Learn new skills to help support your lifestyle like blacksmithing, trapping/tanning, carpentry, and such. Repurpose when you can!
