That's aweful, they never should have been arrested.. Mistakes happen, yes I know that every shop lifter would say this.. But really a reveiw of the tapes would clarify this..

I often eat, while shopping, it's always the first thing I put up though..

I've also left the store without paying for something by accident & once by cashiers fault.. I payed for 2 of the 3 items I put up on chapters, she even bagged the 3rd without paying for it...

And just a few weeks ago at a walmart, I paid for all my groceries. Left got out to my van, and low and behold I have a bag with yucky store eggs..

I don't buy eggs, so I looked at my bill, they didn't charge me. The worst part, eggs weren't the only thing in that bag.. So the person in front of me, paid for eggs and didn't get them... I didn't bring eggs back in, I had tired sick, kids. (Was only there to get meds) I did call when I got home, and gave them all the info off my recipt so, when the little old lady, calls the store to complain, they would believe her. I also drove around parking lot, and tried to find little old lady.. Whom the eggs belonged too..

I'm not sure lady in storey, could win a lawsuit. But it really could've been handled better than this.

I'm hypoglycemic and I have a candy bar and a few packets of sugar just in case in my purse. I pay for my food before I eat it, and don't think my problem is an excuse for bad manners and eating something I haven't paid for. It's my problem, I'm smart enough to carry what I need with me. I also have 3 kids, the youngest are 9 months and just turned 2, the oldest is almost 7. I carry drinks and snacks for them if necessary. Most everyone I know with small kids packs a diaper bag, they don't go out empty handed. And bigger kids, like my 6 year old can tough it out until we get to the car.
The store and the police overreacted, but the parents shouldn't have put themselves in that position in the first place. Theft is theft, no matter the reason.

So, she'll pay for $50 of groceries... And try to steal a sandwich that was maybe a couple dollars? Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. Uh-huh. Sure. Whatever.

I work in a store and you would be surprised by the number of people who buy hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise, and then turn around and try to steal a pack of batteries, or some other inexpensive item. People sometimes steal for reasons other than need.

My kids and I regularly eat things before paying for them. We put the empty wraper in clear sight in the body of the cart. I can see where something could be miss placed. I have had many checkout clerks ask if i knew the package was open or even asking if I knew it was empty well yeah we ate it. I wonder what I could get away with if I said, "Well I didn't know it was open!"
It is clearly a case of over eager store personel with nothing to do!

Say you forgot. And the store has a policy that states "Once an item leaves the store it can not be bought." Then the store has to follow protocol and call the police because you shop lifted.
