The article I read didn’t say specifically when they closed but said that even after a cure was found in the 1940’s, many patients were still kept confined for decades after that. It also said that there are still a few patients that are in their 90s living there today that went there as children. Very Interesting!Did it say when it closed?
The photo in that link is from the overlook. Looks like it didn’t change much. I think we were there I 96.The article I read didn’t say specifically when they closed but said that even after a cure was found in the 1940’s, many patients were still kept confined for decades after that. Wait...I have visited the colony. Kind of. There is a huge overlook, huge for Molokai. I think two cars could be there at once.
We lived on Maui.
For 9 months. Sometimes you have to go where the job takes you.Wait...
you lived in Hawaii?!? The absolute farthest south state?!?!
I prefer to think of it as the furthest west state.Wait...

Yeah, I'm learning that. I never thought I'd be going to Mississippi, but when there's only 6 colleges in the nation with a poultry department... well, I guess I'll learn to survive. I must say though, it is absolutely beautiful there in March! For 9 months. Sometimes you have to go where the job takes you.
Very good!Hmmmm....
Ok, I’m going to take a crack at your obscure reference. Here’s my guess:
Armadillos are known for having leprosy and even spreading it to humans. I believe that the island of Molokai used to be a leper colony. So, eating the leper’s lunch special could get you a one way trip to Molokai.
Am I correct or (somewhat close)?
