How did I never find this post sooner? I was born a Northie, but when the Army sent me to the south, (Kentucky, Alabama then Texas) well I converted and became a Southie! I loved the cooking, the way of thinking and salted peanuts in an ice cold coke!
Now I'm off to read the whole thread and see what fun I have missed!
A real Coke or just a pop? We all know Southie's call any flavor of soda a Coke.

I have never seen that kind of okra and don’t think I want any - it’s from China, for Pete’s sake. I doubt your grandpa would’ve had anything like that either.

I plant ‘Clemson Spineless’ okra. When dealing with a lot of okra, the cactus-like prickles can bring blood.
Well I'm telling you it looked just like that.
No one ever said where it originally come from..
several of the old folks around here just traded seeds back and forth and he ended up with those once and planted them every year after.

We would let them get a little bit bigger than what you would normal okra,
Then we would slice them really thin like chips batter with flour and Fry. Oh so good!
Better than fried zucchini even.

Better than fried zucchini is not saying much.. only things I can think of worse than fried zucchini is okra and boiled peanuts.
