No, fried taters are potatoes, either sliced or cut in bite-sized pieces (and onions when I make them) fried in frying pan in a bit of Crisco. There’s skill involved when cooking most anything fried so that you don’t burn parts and leave some uncooked or dreadfully sticking to the bottom of the pan. These are eaten either for supper or breakfast, but mostly supper and, yes, it’s probably a “southern thang!”And they are absolutely delicious, as most fried things are! Hash browns, are finely grated potatoes fried for breakfast, mostly!
People still use Crisco? I like to use bacon grease for the flavor and avocado oil to keep it from sticking too much.
