I guess.... I just think we need to respect each other's choices. I mean, if somebody chooses to be a veg*n, or not, for whatever reason, let 'em. It's none of my bee's-wax, as my older sisters used to say. But also, if someone says they are a veg*n, it is not up to me to decide what that means. It means whatever it means to that person at that time. I don't know where they are on their journey. I knew a woman who thought she was a vegetarian although she was eating fish. She thought fish was not meat. I guess she thought it wasn't an animal. That' okay. She didn't have to. It was just different from what I thought. Some people say they are vegans if they don't eat meat, but don't think about other animal products in their lives. That doesn't make them liars or hypocrites or bad people, it's just where they are on their journey. But at the same time, neither should a veg*n be shaking their finger in my face telling me what I should and shouldn't eat. Diet is a very personal matter. We're all unique individuals. I'll walk in my light, you walk in yours. I'm having some interesting GI challenges right now myself and I'll just say I'm really glad eggs are still on the menu! ;)

Nope, it just makes them plant based if they don't adhere to everything that the word vegan entails.

I just want to respect true vegans so I say I'm plant based, there are people who work truly hard to be vegan and I don't want to disrespect the word vegan. I have respect for all eating habits and lifestyles.

I used to eat whatever like most people until 10ish years ago so I know both sides. Some people all they've ever known is vegan because they were brought up that way and they've never tasted anything else in their lives.

I think it's truly amazing how each one of us is so different and that's what makes me love this world. There is such a vast difference in opinions, eating, lifestyles... It's truly incredible.

Thanks again for sharing the research study. I got through it this a.m. and plan on going deeper on the subject later today - after I finish my chicken chores!

What you provided was a summary of about 300 other studies, which showed that 95% of the studies concluded that going from our present agricultural methods in support of our present diet would result in greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction in the range of 20-70% - supporting @BDutch claim. In the summary - the authors did say that meeting the caloric and macronutrient needs of the globes population is more difficult in a vegetarian diet.

That said - I need to read some of the studies that feed the consolidated research. I saw 2 things that concern me in the document - the first is that it's based on caloric need, not on caloric intake (in other words - they assume that is the globe went vegetarian, we'd only consume 2000 calories, where the avg. American consumer more: therefore, if we cut our actual caloric intake from 2500 calories to 2000 calories, there would be an X reduction in GHG without going vegetarian). the second is the wide range of conclusion (20-70% reduction in GHG)

I spent my entire career in predictive analytics in the private sector. I designed studies that would look at: if we do this , we'll sell more of that, or - if we do business in X country, what would the sales and profit look like in 5 years. In the private sector - you don't get to keep your job if you are wrong. In academia- it doesn't matter.

So, yup - I'm a big nerd, and I'll do more reading.

Nerd out!

My whole family is filled with a bunch of nerds!

My brother is a chemical engineer and quite blessed in the brains department. He has researched plant based diets a long time ever since I got sick.

My doctor is a specialist and is quite blessed in the brain's department as well... He is so fascinated about how plant-based has truly helped me and it blows his mind every time he sees me. Me going on plant-based was just a random thought that crossed both of our minds pretty much at the same time at an appointment several years ago.

DH thinks I'm superwoman because of what I've overcome:gigi don't see it that way, but I'm the one living it. I don't see myself from the outside like others.

There's a lot to my story, but I live and breathe the plant based lifestyle. I'm 32 and look maybe 24 if that. People are blown away by how much I've changed since I became plant based. My body just thrives on this diet. My husband is a Paleo eater and he thrives on that diet, he literally looks like he lifts weights but he doesn't! He's just built from working and from eating Paleo.

I say that everything happens for a reason and I believe that I am plant-based for a reason. It's actually helped my oldest son because he has become allergic to dairy so he has to eat a lot of plant-based stuff like I eat... He used to make fun of me for eating plant based:gigbut now he does it! I used to eat vegan Ben & Jerry's and he used to tell me how disgusting it looked, but now he eats it every week:lau He's actually the one who asked if I would grow meat chickens for him because he understands what goes on in the chicken industry and meat industry. He's a very smart child, he's blessed like my brother with the brains! He's in all advanced classes at only 14. He was taking college classes in 8th grade... I'm lucky if I can do a math problem without a calculator:th

Math.. I hate that word. That's quite the coincidence

I'm the person that still counts on my fingers or in my head:gigI am very smart with science and animals because that was my passion as a child. I always had good grades in science. When it came to history and math, I absolutely didn't like them.

I believe that is why I am very successful with my chickens and all of my animals because I have that knowledge. I was a vet tech for a little while before I got sick and I was also a dog groomer. I'm very into animals. I see beauty in every animal on this Earth. I also see the purpose of every animal on this Earth, like using chickens for meat and eggs.

My doctor thought it was the coolest thing that I was hatching my own chicks. He was looking at my candling pictures and asking me what he was seeing and he was just blown away!

I'm in college for the vet field, though I'm not in vet school yet I'm getting a 4 year degree first, moving to a masters in vet schooling when I'm done. I love science and Biology but I HATE math. I've forgotten almost everything I had in grade school and 7-9 grade. Half of 10-12 to :lau I only care for the stuff I want to learn which makes me a hard person to work with :hmm :gig

I'm the same way. I was going to try to do nursing but I realized I wasn't very interested in the human body. I did anatomy and physiology classes and I just wasn't too impressed. My whole family is made up of nurses, doctor's, police officers, and engineers... I'm a chicken farmer :gigim the odd ball of the family

I ate “plant based” as a teen because I didn’t like the texture of roasts which my mother made All. The. Time. And one night when I complained again in a fit of anger she told me if I didn’t like it I didn’t have to eat it or any other meat as well....so I didn’t....for 4 years.
Well one night the family was eating big juicy steaks and my brother looked down at his plate, gripped his fork in his fist and stabbed it into the center of the steak. Lifting the entire steak off his plate he looked me dead in the eye while the steak dangled from his fork and said,

“This used to be a vegetarian.....look what happened to IT.”

:gig:lau:bow
(No, that is not what made me go back to eating meat, but it sure was funny)
