You would not believe the night I had…

there should be responsibilty on both ends and it sure isnt fair that the little dog lost it's life but she was lucky to have for help!

Well first off, we have dogs here on Guam called "boonie" dogs, they are dogs that are abandoned, and I have two as pets; quite frankly if you don't stop after hitting a dog that's pretty sorry... Mostly, people INTENITALLY try and hit dogs here, that is why I'm so mad, and I have every right to be mad at someone who hit the dog, it's not that hard to slow down and honk your horn! The speed limit on the road was 35mph people were going 60mph and 70mph, so that's pretty reckless and I'm sorry, someone's dog or not, people should NOT leave a dog to suffer on the side of the road, that is just CRUEL!!!
I understand that if the dog had owners it would be a different situation, and yes I would be contacting them, but even with that I wouldn't have left the dog there and no one should have left her there in the first place.

That brought tears to me eyes. I went through the same thing many years ago. DH and i were driving on some poe-dunk road and the lady in front of us hit a bird dog. That dog bounced under her car, and got tossed into the middle of the street. DH said some choice words and stopped. We called the cops, waited for 45 minutes and put the dog into our car and headed for the vet. we explained what had happened but they told us since it wasnt our dog, they couldnt do anything. So, we told them it was our dog now, and to treat him. He was just banged up and bruised, but overall ok. I'll never forget the look in this dogs eyes as I held his head on the side of the road waiting for the cops. We had him for many years until we had him put to sleep. He turned out to be a great dog.

years ago I was on my way home from work and it was pitch black outside. While driving down this stretch of highway (within a mile from where I lived) a cat darted across in front of my car and I couldn't miss it, so I did hit it I felt so sick to my stomach when I got out of my car and saw it was a gray tabby that looked identical to mine, my heart sank. I took it to the shoulder of the road and noticed that it didn't have a flea collar on so I knew it wasn't my smokey. There was no houses in the area and the cat was already dead, so I put it in the grass and got back in my car shaking and drove home.
The tears came and I shook all the way home and was able to stop crying when I got home and saw my smokey spraweled out on my bed safe!

Your right we dont know the story, did the other person stop? Did they get snapped at by the dog?? Dog are unpredictable when injured, I had a dog that went into seasures, and bit at me, she never had before and hasnt since, but the first thing you are taught when helping a injured animal is not to trust it. It would be a completely different story if this nice calm dog took a chunk out of the person that is trying to help them. This time it didnt happen, but next time who knows.

Right, so let's blame the dog for being hit by a car and then being terrified and reacting NATURALLY. Fortunately, I worked at a vet and I know how to handle dog that is injured, scared, aggressive, and you know if the dog snapped at them I could understand being scared to help, still this doesn't mean leave it there to die in pain... There was a couple who showed up half an hour after us that had actually already moved her out of the middle of the road into the median and then went to get a tarp and food for her, she didn't snap at them and they did witness the actual HIT & RUN... So, please continue with you antics about how we should not help suffering animals on the side of the road...
