Your right we dont know the story, did the other person stop? Did they get snapped at by the dog?? Dog are unpredictable when injured, I had a dog that went into seasures, and bit at me, she never had before and hasnt since, but the first thing you are taught when helping a injured animal is not to trust it. It would be a completely different story if this nice calm dog took a chunk out of the person that is trying to help them. This time it didnt happen, but next time who knows.
Right, so let's blame the dog for being hit by a car and then being terrified and reacting NATURALLY. Fortunately, I worked at a vet and I know how to handle dog that is injured, scared, aggressive, and you know if the dog snapped at them I could understand being scared to help, still this doesn't mean leave it there to die in pain... There was a couple who showed up half an hour after us that had actually already moved her out of the middle of the road into the median and then went to get a tarp and food for her, she didn't snap at them and they did witness the actual HIT & RUN... So, please continue with you antics about how we should not help suffering animals on the side of the road...
You just answered your own. Someone else had already moved the animal and left it, did you convince them to help for the vet bills, how heartless and irresponsible for them not to do more than move the dog out of the road. Possible the person did stop, and the dog was unconsciuos and they left it. Possible it was just another target for the kids going 70 in a 35 zone. or possibly it was some old lady that shouldnt be driving at night and will wake up in the morning to find she has a missing piece of her car and fur in her wheel well. The possibilitys are endless, so keeping secondguessing what could have or might have happened. Do you also stop and try to revive a deer, possum, ground hog, or any other animal that gets hit in the road? I would guess not, but because you have decided to Humanize the Dog it is such a tradgedy that no one stopped. Lucky for the dog you have formal training and got away without getting yourself injured in the process, maybe someone else without your knowledge and skills thought it best to leave the lifesaving to a professional.
