You would not believe the night I had…

Your right we dont know the story, did the other person stop? Did they get snapped at by the dog?? Dog are unpredictable when injured, I had a dog that went into seasures, and bit at me, she never had before and hasnt since, but the first thing you are taught when helping a injured animal is not to trust it. It would be a completely different story if this nice calm dog took a chunk out of the person that is trying to help them. This time it didnt happen, but next time who knows.

Right, so let's blame the dog for being hit by a car and then being terrified and reacting NATURALLY. Fortunately, I worked at a vet and I know how to handle dog that is injured, scared, aggressive, and you know if the dog snapped at them I could understand being scared to help, still this doesn't mean leave it there to die in pain... There was a couple who showed up half an hour after us that had actually already moved her out of the middle of the road into the median and then went to get a tarp and food for her, she didn't snap at them and they did witness the actual HIT & RUN... So, please continue with you antics about how we should not help suffering animals on the side of the road...

You just answered your own. Someone else had already moved the animal and left it, did you convince them to help for the vet bills, how heartless and irresponsible for them not to do more than move the dog out of the road. Possible the person did stop, and the dog was unconsciuos and they left it. Possible it was just another target for the kids going 70 in a 35 zone. or possibly it was some old lady that shouldnt be driving at night and will wake up in the morning to find she has a missing piece of her car and fur in her wheel well. The possibilitys are endless, so keeping secondguessing what could have or might have happened. Do you also stop and try to revive a deer, possum, ground hog, or any other animal that gets hit in the road? I would guess not, but because you have decided to Humanize the Dog it is such a tradgedy that no one stopped. Lucky for the dog you have formal training and got away without getting yourself injured in the process, maybe someone else without your knowledge and skills thought it best to leave the lifesaving to a professional.

Oh bologna, I would stop and help a deer or other big animal but no possums for me, I would like to keep my fingers intact... If you read my above post you would note that the person hit the dog and ran, did not stop. The couple that stayed with us and helped witnessed it and at the time did what they could... Why don't you go take your barrage somewhere else I just don't care for it... I have no idea what you have against helping animals and I don't care to know, so keep it to yourself, it's sad that I was merely doing a good thing and all you can do is whine.

I'm not too worried about the money, I have a savings set up for incidents that happen in this case like this... I just hate that it has to come to a dog being hit for people to actually care to give it a good life, there’s no telling how long she had been abandoned, but such is life! If only I could keep them all lol

Hey! WAIT A MINUTE HERE, aren't you supposed to be cleaning the house Bell?!!?!

you should post a wish on wishuponahero.com its free and who knows!!!!

Thank goodness that you were there for her at the end. She didn't have to die alone. She obviously trusted you and you did what you could.

There is NO excuse for not stopping if you hit a dog or a cat. NONE. EVER.

I was driving on a dark country road about 5 or so years ago. A deer literally ran into my car. We stopped. The deer was definitely injured, and lying next to the road. My husband, who is a hunter, said he couldn't leave the deer like that. So he snapped it's neck. He hated doing it, but he couldn't just leave it there to suffer.

I don't think we were humanizing it, or anything like that. We were just trying to "do the right thing".

I hate seeing stray dogs running on the road. I always stop! It's not always the safest thing to do, but I think that even if other cars see a car on the side of the road with it's blinkers on, they will hopefully at least slow down. The last dog I stopped for was a puppy. My husband and I went to the closest house and asked if it was their dog. It was, the guy had no idea that dog got out. Apparently the kids let it out and forgot about it. It wasn't the guys fault, he had no idea.

Anyway, thank you for helping the dog out! I'm sure it felt much more comfort with your compassion, and didn't just die in agony on a busy road.
