You'll never believe what I found at Wal Mart! Update #36 *Pics*

Looks like a straight up game hen. Color's black breasted red.

Many game roosters are very "aggressive" breeders, the damage on her wings and back is probably from that. Bare patches on her neck is normal(but heavy & just started to) molt. She'll be all sleek and beautiful soon..

It is "relatively common" for chickens found in odd situations to be games.. they could be escapees enroute to an auction(they can be very good escape artists), or someone has them running loose, hopping fences into public areas(you'd be surprised how many rather free ranging/feral-ish chickens there are in Los Angeles or other main cities out here in So. Calif). Games have very good survival instincts.. they are sort of less domesticated and much more athletic and still have more of the 'wild smarts' than the usual domestic breed.

The fact you were able to catch her plus the breeding damage makes me think she was probably contained in a cage or pen and is also a recent escapee. Longtime "free living" games are Extremely difficult to catch.. much more like a wild pheasant. Impossible to catch bare handed really.. we had some of them and the only way we could catch any of them were to trick them into going a trap or habituate them into going in a particular shed for food then slam the doors shut really, really fast.

I suggested to the hubby that we name her 'Wally', but he said he did not like that name for a girl. His suggestion was Ms. Parker because she was in a parking lot.

Any other good ideas?

That makes sense, because I noticed that her crop was very full but it felt like it was full of something chunky and hard like cracked corn.

I thought mebbe she had escaped very recently and that's what she was being fed OR maybe she got into some wild bird food somewhere.

Hope that's all it is! If all it takes is some time to let the feathers grow back I'll be REALLY happy. I'm wiling to do whatever it takes to nurse her back to health but I'd really rather not spend hundreds of dollars on my 'free' chicken if I can avoid it!

When i go to hawaii, california, and Florida i always see chickens that look EXACLY like that except more feathers. especially in Hawaii every where you go you here wild chickens cock-a-doodle-dooing and clucking like crazy! i am guessing they are some sort of game chickens?... At least she has a good home now.

Now some ladies will do anything to go shopping. She must have heard about the chicken who was taken shopping in a purse (I can't remember who did that but it was classic) and decided to see what the fuss is about.
