Please help, I'm new. I got a duckling and he/she is about 5 weeks old. They just had a bill injury, I saw it happen, I don't see damage but there is blood coming off and on from the nostrils (it was a blunt injury and I feel horrible, the lid fell on his/her bill) I don't know what to do.

Did I just sentence them to die??

Just wiped it and some clotted blood cane out

Welcome To BYC

I'm sorry about your Duckling.

:hugs It's o.k.! Accidents happen.

Bills and beaks can bleed for a little while; it may not be too bad.

It sounds like the cut/injury is already clotting up, so that's good. Is the Duckling alert?

Wipe the blood off with a soft cloth and get some photos if possible.

It has tried to clot 2x now, but jus keeps coming out

Thank-you sorry, I'm panicking so appreciate anything and everything.

Ducky has a friend I don't know ow if it's best to separate them. I did try for a little but the other baby wouldn't relax.

@Animal_lover2003 how is your duckling doing?

It looks like the bleeding has stopped in the last photo, that's very good.

Having a friend with her to snuggle is a great idea, they love to be with one another and find comfort that way.

Hopefully she's eating/drinking well. She may be sore for a few days.

Bleeding went off and on for a few more hours but as of this morning I haven't seen any new blood, cleaned up her bill and has stayed clean.

She sounds as if slightly stuffy like whistling when breathing not very but you can hear it.

She has eaten from my hand a bit a few times and is drinking bit has not dunked her head up to or past the nostrils not sure if thats worrisome?

It's good that she's eating a little and drinking.

I do think that she probably needs water to dunk her bill, but she may just be sore and will do that in the next few days.

I'll tag @Goosebaby and @Jenbirdee to see if they have any suggestions for you.

She seems to be doing better again. I have seen her duck her hole head in a couple times. Been changing the water on the regular every couple hours.

Thank-you I do think she is on the mend.

Any suggestions on how long to keep her seperated from the chicks or from taking her to play outside or in the pool?? Don't want to re injure current progress.
