E-mail PM Re: Need help! Laying first egg, something's wrong graphic picturei'm so sorry for your loss. i just found this thread. i had a hen prolapse just like yours, on her very first egg. i did have a chicken vet nearby and rushed her there. She couldn't find the opening either so made a small incision and got the egg out. She pushed the prolapse back in and i think gave her an injection of pitocin? She recovered and is fine now.

So this gives me hope...

I just had this happen to my young chicken. She had two eggs stuck. One with a hard shell and one with a very soft shell. I also found a very thin part of the membrane and just scratched on it enough to tear it. I was able to get both eggs out but now she has the prolapse. I can't really tell where it needs to go and was afraid to try to put it back in the cavity. She was pushing again today, but I didn't see an egg. Her bottom is covered in poo again today. I rinsed it off yesterday, but sure was messy again today. I guess I will try cleaning her good tomorrow and reinserting the prolapse and put her in the dog crate and see if we can get her healed. Thanks everyone.
