We have a Buff Laced Polish hen that we were trying to introduce to the flock we have today. She had no issues with mobility before we introduced her. We were supervising when our rooster started beating up on her pretty bad. We got her out and when we brought her inside, we noticed she was limping. It’s her left leg. When she limps, she puts the weight on her ankle joint (if that’s what the first joint is called) after her foot touches the ground, and she doesn’t curl her toes, but she won’t spread them out fully. I tried feeling on her leg for any feel-able fractures or wounds, but I couldn’t feel anything. She doesn’t react or flinch when palpating. She’s still eating and drinking, and even standing and preening, but I can tell that she’s in pain. She even used her foot just now as I’m typing this to scratch her head. We’ve started giving her a mix of vitamins and electrolytes in her water, and she’s going to be caged until we figure everything out and she’s better. Could it be a sprain? What should the next course of action be? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks!
