Young Light Sussex Already Broody????

My light suussex hen who has only been laying for about 6 or 8 weeks has gone broody. Is it normal for a bird that young to go broody?

I find little normal or consistent about broodies. They go broody when they want to. Sometimes that is when they are pretty young and usually that is not at all. That young is a little unusual but not unheard of.

If you want a broody, congratulations.

i have a hen that became broody right after her 12th egg.

hatched only seven out of twelve.

but she's a good momma.

Thank god, I was hoping for another good broody, Just a few weeks to early with this cold weather. I bet her big butt could hatch at least 15 eggs.

In this weather, I'd only give her a dozen at most. She'll need to be able to cover the chicks for a while and they grow pretty fast.
