Your best broody hen is a ?????

Okay, Lurky and ChickenBoy -- what are your babies? They sure are cute! Mommas aren't bad, either! Thanks for the pix.

Seriously, thanks for the input. We had silkies once and they were anything but broody. Could have been inbreeding, I guess.

American game hen, they are great to set and are the best mom's.
I have 2 and look for the hen to go broody any time, the pullet will be later this year I'm thinking.

My best broody is a bourbon red turkey.

Closely followed by a little cochin x japanese hen who very tiny and can only do a few eggs at a time. Her name is Dragon Lady. Touch her peeps and you'll find out why.

Only problem with my little bantam leghorn is you cant fit many eggs under her,,,,,,,,I took out 10 eggs today

I agree with Okiehen, my American Game Hens will go broody at least twice a summer as long as they have eggs. One of my favorites, Ninja, starts her nest in February every year and then hatches another brood around July. Even the yard hens that are seperated from any roosters will try setting and they have made great foster moms. Persephone, a brown breasted red, had 4 thai games, 2 Buff Laced Bearded Polish and an American Game chick last year. I wish I had taken more pictures it was quite the site to watch them run the yard.
