Your Chicken's 1st Experience with Snow!!!

Every one is hunkered down in this storm here today! They don't even want to be in the run, so I closed them in the coop to keep the wind out. We've gotten lots of snow... I'd say near a foot here... but hard to tell with the wind.

I had to dig and dig to get to the duck's water tub this afternoon. This am at 7 there was almost no snow. Ducks are still outside.. I will put them up soon. They don't seem to care for it either and are hanging out in their leanto.

Mine will actually go out into the snow now as long as it is a shoveled walk path....

When they know that the treats are coming a couple will fly out not knowing where they are going to land & will land on the horse cross ties way up high &

my crazy roo will all of a sudden decide he can't land on the fence rail cause it has snow on it so he dive bombs into the snow bank (POOF) & then just stands there until you come & bring him back to the coop.

Our chickens freaked out. They flew up into the trees. One flew onto the roof of our shed, slipped down the roof like an out-of-control skier, then flew across the yard, squawking the whole way. We got a pretty good laugh out of it, then put her back in the coop.

We shovel paths for them in the backyard and sprinkle treats down. It is funny to see them in their chicken paths. We love it cause they won't go anywhere so it keeps them contained!

Can you guys send some of that snow my way? All we've been getting is rain and I love snow!! We didn't even get enough snow last year to sleigh ride

I would LOVE to send snow your way! We are under another warning right now....again! It is just never ending! They said it was going to be a bad winter like last year & so far they are right.

At least the chickens have decided that the snow paths are ok. Whew! It would have been a very long winter for them other wise. I guess it just took some time for them to get used to the white stuff & they noticed.....geeze, this stuff aint going away!

I posted about my birds' first snow back in this threadon December 7th. Pictures included! Now we've had quite a bit more snow, there's probably 14" or so on the ground out there, maybe more. The chooks won't come out at all, I opened the door and they looked out and looked at me as though to say "What, do you think we're crazy or something?"

They've stayed in the coop for two days now. I doubt they'll come out tomorrow, either! I give them the opportunity, they just don't want to take it.

Well my 5 ...5 month old chikens were roaming free outside the other day when it began to snow. They all ran up onto my deck, crowded at the glass to my back door looking in at me as if to say "hey Ma...what in the heck is this stuff". After a bit they took it in stride and walked around eating cracked corn I enticed them with. Seems they kinda like snow! Leave it to silkies.............they really do seem pretty adaptable!
