I don't like to support hatcheries. I would way rather support a small family farm or breeder, who's birds get to free range, and be chickens. I think that chicks hatched, and stored in bins until shipment is unnatural, there for prefer to support local farms. Not that hatcheries treat there birds badly, but they don't live as free a life as the birds on a farm. Just my opinion though.

:goodpost:Agree. I have only purchased from a hatchery once. A few of my birds are rescues or adoptions from people who previously purchased from a hatchery. I am an exhibitor so breeders are a favorite. But I love adopting unwanted birds from backyard chicken keeps, local farms rescues, etc.

Yes! I love to adopt when I can as well, and always look their first. I don't like shipping chicks either, so another reason not purchase from hatcheries.

Hi all, was wondering what y'alls favorite hatcheries are. :)

The hatcheries can be Chicken, ducks, geese, anything! I'm looking into where I should buy my chicks :D
I bought three geese from Metzer Farms. They are located in CA and we live in Missouri. The told us the day the geese were hatched and when they were shopped. The arrived exact ally as they said. In perfect health with water and feed, and a warn pad for the goslings to stay warm. I was very pleased. Our geese are 19 days old and are huge, like 14" tall and eat like there may be no food tomorrow. We are so pleases!

I'm using Stromberg's this year and liking them alot. My spring brood came out terrific - SIlver Laced Wyandottes that grew faster than previous broods, feathered quickly, and none of them have any deformities. They are sexed pullets, and all seem to be as advertised - no Roos.

Stromberg's has several "satellite" sites around the US, and I was able to drive down to Winter Haven, Florida to pick up my chicks, less than an hour each way. I'll be getting a Summer brood of Barred Plymouth Rock this weekend. Prices are consistant with the other hatcherys, and the nice thing is, no Postal charges.

I like Ideal Poultry for chickens. Large selection, low minimum order, very inexpensive small order handling fee, low chick prices, and free shipping. The chicks I've got from them aren't the best quality, but they have been healthy and productive.

For waterfowl, Metzer. Ordered from them three times, and have received great goslings and ducklings every time.
