The word "lifestyle" has many meanings, some which wouldn't be appropriate to post about on BYC.
TwinMommy, meet David; aka Davaroo. He has a very dry (some say twisted) sense of humor....and I love it!

Ok, here we go...

DH is 48, I'm 38 between us there are 4 children, 1 grandbaby, 1 SIL. Only one child living at home and he's 16 almost 17. DH and I are both currently unemployed, he worked in the automotive industry and I was working for our family corp. We live in the country and own 14 acres with 2 homes (MIL lives in one) on it. DH does odd jobs, he's a jack of all trades. We plant a huge garden every year and do our own canning. We also process our own chickens (mainly just the extra roosters). Currently raising two steers, one for our meat and one to sell. I work 2-3 days a week at a livestock auction facility clerking sells and working in the barn when needed. We live paycheck to paycheck. DH drives a jeep and I drive a Lancer, both are paid for. We only have our house and utilities for bills. Our home needs alot of fixing up and eventually we'll get there. I also take care of my parents and see to their needs, doctors, grocery store that kinda thing. My dad is getting ready to have deep brain stimulation surgery this month and my mom has a bad heart. I shop at the goodwill store every week. My mom loves to go and I take her on senior discount days when I take her shopping. I also shop all grocery ads. I hardly don't buy anything that isn't on sale except for sugar, creamer, tea, our three main staples, lol.

I'm happy just getting by, for some reason when we were busting our butts and DH was working 50 hrs a week I felt like there was more stress in our lives. We now have less money, more animals and were happier. Go figure....

We live in rural south central Alaska.
Very crunchy.
Very conservative Christian.
Headcover and dresses only.
Family integrated House church with several very large families.
Traditional foods only.
I also teach others how and why to transition to Real Foods.
Raw milk, cream, butter, etc
Cloth pads, family cloth (no, no stink at all)
We hunt and fish for all our meat needs.
Working towards growing all our vege needs.
Have a big greenhouse.
Strongly desire to live off, off grid.
Heat with wood.
Hence, we cut haul and split all our own wood.
Dreaming of a wood cookstove
Line dry inside using a ceiling mounted line in our massive bathroom and a rod near the woodstove in winter.
Outside during summer.
Have had numerous miscarriages.
On the cusp of a home study, so we can foster adopt.
and of course, we have lots of chickens.
And dream of having enough acreage to grass feed a small cow.
I stay at home.
DH is manager of a fly and tackel shop.
He teaches custom Rod Building and also is a professional fly fishing guide.

Glitterbug, (post 46), several years ago I flew to the Poconos to spend a weekend retreat led by Madeleine L'Engle. Three days with her, laughing and sometimes crying, listening to her speak of writing, reading, family, faith...an incredible life experience. I appreciate your quote of hers. Thanks! ~G

Let's see... Hubby and I both grew up in small, farming communities. We live in the suburbs now of a major city (Denver), but live on a half acre. We are also only about 20-30 minutes from my MIL's farm and spend a lot of time there. We are both students. Actually, my DH just graduated in December. I still will be in school a couple more years. We don't have any kids, but have thought about eventually adopting. Until then, we have plenty of critters to keep us busy. Neither of us care anything about wearing brand names or driving expensive cars. We are more into frugal living and love growing our own foods and spending time outdoors. We were both raised conservative Christian, but are now very socially liberal.

Yay PotterWatch! I love it!

I spent some time visiting with a relative in Alaska who owns a kennel and a dogsled team. I loved every minute of it!
I am a pitbull owner/lover and I have one dog. Skijoring was recommended to me. While I was researching it, I came across bikejoring. It looks like so much fun! I am teaching the commands to my pup and we are going to attempt to start skiing this winter!

I would love to hear more about your experiences and team.

Thanks!

Love this thread!... I lived for my designer clothes!! I worked on a fashion mag and now I'm changing my life totally... I live in New Zealand on 15 acres my grandfather left me along with a cottage and a range of animals a little over a year ago. I'm from the U.K and moved out here to see what the place would be like (with half a mind to sell up but fell in love with it instead) and have had such a wonderful turnaround. Sadly my father was taken very ill some way through last year and I had to return to England to nurse him but now I'm back at Garden Cottage, only arrived last week and am now spending time catching up with the friends I made first time out. I've packed my job in, even my free-lance work and am throwing myself into my new life! I have 27 chickens (there were only 11 when I left) 8chicks, 6 ducks (which seem to come and go and change color) two tame rats a cat and a Kuni pig. It's all a bit scary still but I get help from the forums and support from the people who live around me. It's fairly remote around me with the mountains one side and the ocean the other but stunning... I'm single, forty and on the look out for a decent 4WD and a ride on mower!
