Looks to me like you have a pair there, but I would have to see better pictures of each duck. You will most likely be able to tell at this point by the sound of their voices. Ducks mature pretty quickly. Sometimes even quicker than chickens!

The two you want to breed look to be pretty nice. They aren't quite show quality, but I'm sure you could work up to that! Personally, I just like to breed things and see what I get. If that's all you want to do, than go for it! I have yet to try and hatch ducks, but I would love to give it a shot this spring.

Good luck with your duck breeding! I would love to try runners, but it's so difficult to find anything around here!

The moscovy x mallard based duck does produce a bird, but that bird is called a 'mule.' That bird is infertile. So they will hatch, but they will not be able to reproduce.
That make sense?

I'm not an expert at all, but the one thing I see is the stance. I think they should stand up a little straighter, however, it could just be the picture that is causing this. Also, I think they need to be a little slimmer, but again I'm not an expert. I'm just going off what I have seen at some of the shows around here. They do have nice coloring though!

Holderread farms had some great pictures of ducks, especially the runners. Again, I'm not a judge or anything, so definitely get a second opinion if you are really interested on whether or not they are actually SQ. Personally, I buy birds because they are pretty, not because of whether or not they are SQ.

I will definitely keep you in mind for eggs! I would love to do a trade in the spring when my guys start laying!

Some runners do not stand up as straight as others do. I have a penciled drake who stands so tall it looks like he may fall over and his girlfriend is a grey runner, she never stands straight up. I have one that looks kind of like your there, I think mine is a Khaki X Runner. Yours could be a runner that is X bred or just doesn't have the right stance. They recommend not breeding them for show, but there's no saying the babies won't "straight" runners.

I’m sorry I didn't read all of the posts. Maybe you already got the info you needed.

We thought the feed store gave us two female runners, but they turned out to be one male, one female (they did the same thing with the Chinese Geese, not fun). Our female did tend to hold herself a bit lower. The telling factor was that the male's sound is a horsey, whispering “quack”. The female was quite vocal with a loud “Whank, Whank, Whank”, making her sound like the Penguin from a Batman movie. Of course, we really knew who was who when Spring came
