It just makes me smile to walk into my coop & run and see the colors. When I have time I'm going to make some valances for the windows and hang some things up in the run for me and the ladies. We like colorful, cheery things to look at. Paint goes a long way, doesn't cost much, and you're only limited by your imagination. Right now I have a big branch in the run and they like to run around it and jump over it. I love the stained glass idea! Trying to find items easy to move out and hose off might be a challenge...in addition, unless you have a lot of extra run room, you do want to make sure that it is an item that the chickens will actually use. I love watching the girls when there is something new in the run.

I have a stained glass 'window' being made as we speak, to put above our door,,,but we area hockey loving family, so naturally we went with a a hockey theme....and as the coop is only about 4 weeks old or so, we are constantly thinking and looking for new 'coopage'.

Any structure you have in your yard should be attractive and reflect your personality. No, the chickens won't care if their coop is painted or decorated, but your neighbors might appreciate a bit of beautification. I like the idea of using old toddler's toys in the run. They are safe, and easily hosed down when they get too dirty... and they will! My Girls love to perch on things that give them a higher perspective of the world (they are actually very nosy, and want to see what's going on...), they also appreciate things that they can get under, for shelter from the sun or rain, or just privacy. I have a garden obelisk in the center of my covered run. It actually helps to hold up the netting, so it doesn't sag in the center, but my Girls like to dust bathe in the space underneath it. Here is a pic of my coop. I've posted it before, in other threads, so Sorry in advance if you've seen it before!
