I have had 4 roos. 1 nasty RIR who got the axe.......now left with 3.

1 Jersey Giant roo....he has been relatively nice so far. Did attack my visiting dad last week (whoops) but it was understandable. Has not shown any aggression before or since. He is just very very cautious about strangers

He was very rough with the girls at first but has gotten better...only problem is his size since he is SO much bigger than them. He will pace the fenceline if there is a dog loose in a neighbor's yard and stalks any strangers who come into the yard. He doesn't even look at me funny

1 Blue Andalusian roo.......he is not friendly at all. Not aggressive so far but is definitely thinking about it. I grabbed one of the girls the other day and she squawked and he came running and postured at me. Understandable, yet annoying. He gives me the evil eye but keeps his distance. He is GREAT With the girls.....just learning to dance for them but keeps much closer watch on them than the other boys. He is 2nd in line for the roosters but is considering mutiny......my JG roo grabbed his favorite girl the other day and blue andy came running over...didn't end up trying to take her back, but I expect he will very soon try to take the top spot.

1 Rhode Island Red roo.....he is bottom of the totem pole and knows it. He is very timid and mostly acts like a hen. I did catch him trying to grab a girl the other day, which is surprising......he and the Blue Andy are buddies and I expect will be a great pair of flock guardians. He stays WAY far away from me and doesn't even look at me funny. Or at all. The girls like him and he is a big boy who seems to just be late maturing. I expect good things from him.


I originally expected to keep only 1 rooster.....but my Jersey Giant boy just can't handle all his girls. He really has no interest in taking care of any more than his "favorite" 6. Since the other two are buds, I am letting them stay for now. I am thinking about selling my blue andalusian flock, and that will cut me down a rooster. pretty sure my RIR boy will step up without his buddy.

We have a slew of roos in area and omgosh they are so darn noisey. They keep it up day and night ,blaring sun,.pouring rain,strangers near ,strangers far, owners there ,owners gone,hens laying egg,.hens thinking about laying eggs,competing with real roos and what they perceive as roos, mating ,not mating, visiting dogs, meandering frogs ,cats, toads ,pigs , mongoose,pigeons, doves and probably mice as well as roof rats(ugh),whatever. But guess what ? I have awhile to wait to see if any of my chickies will be roos(SILKIES) and I am either going to be adding to the general noise level or I am not . Toss the dice. Time will tell and I will either have to make more coop arrangements or I won't as my chickies are staying with me until their end of time! They deserve a life just like the hens.

I wasnt sure rather to keep my rooster or not. What i dont like is that he does the suprise attack breeding. The girls end up some damage to their heads, combs and even close to their eyes. Is this normal and is he just being a rooster.

All 3 of RIR are mean as a hornet. They attack all the other birds with the exception of our Barred Rock Roo.

My BO roo is pretty neurotic. He used to crow CONSTANTLY but developed bad case of sour crop and I guess it broke the habit. He is great with his 1 hen, watches over her, lets her eat first and respects her personal space. He attacked me a few times and got worse when I retaliated. I went back to being extra gentle and no more problems. He was apparently just scared. He still gripes if the weather changes suddenly, and seems to expect me to fix it. lol

I have a 17 week old New Hampshire Red who is bad. I am trying to rehome him (his agression would be good on a lot of acreage where he had to be a badass) or he will be RIPieces soon.

 

[Big Chicken Little]

Three roos and they are great together. They are into everything and run as a group. They are a source of entertainment with all their antics. They roost on a fence side by side. Once it gets dark I go out and visit them and they are so sweet then and don't mind being handled.

I have an evil Rhode Island Red who is 26 weeks old. I'd like him to disappear but the children are attached to him though still frightened of him; go figure!

My Old English Game bantam is a sweetie though easily intimidated.

And, my Booted Bantam is okay on the friendliness scale but rates high in intelligence. When they were still living in the house and were out free-ranging he went home at dusk all on his own. Hopped up the back steps and into the house when the door was opened.
