In the Brooder
Hi. I have had chickens for about 2 years. I had 3 at first then added 3 1 year ago. They are all hens and of different breeds. My children picked them out. We live in AZ. One of my chickens, Button, started looking sick about a week ago. I noticed she was staying in the corner off the coop. I examined her and after investigating symptoms online I thought she was eggbound. I treated her for 4 days thinking this was the problem. Her liwer abdomen seemed to be getting larger and I could feel more and more of her chest bones. I started to read more and came to this site. A thread about waterbelly caught my interest. She had all the symptoms. I used a 18g needle in her lower abdomen and drained about 250ml yesterday and 200ml today. It was yellow tinted. It gave her such comfort becuase she fell asleep while I was performing this both times. I am guessing she has not been eating for awhile as she now seems thin. She is up walking around and doing so much better today. I am keeping her seperate from the rest for awhile. This way I know she is eating and I'll know when she lays an egg. Hoping for the best
