Cyn,
Is one of the Crosses CJ's Mama? I am sure you have told me at one time and I have forgotten. I have decided he is a Rare North Georgia Bouncing Chicken.......

That nutty CJ! Nope, his mama was a blue Silkie/black frizzle Cochin bantam cross with a pea comb; at least that's what I was told. I had a picture of her somewhere, but she wasn't mine. He came from what was supposed to be a Buff Orp hatching egg and sure gave us a chuckle! And CJ's daddy a standard Buff Orp, if you can imagine.

The PoufyHead Sisters came from helmstead's BR flock that had an extra old Cochin/Silkie rooster in there we thought was infertile. Well, he wasn't, LOL. Spread his seed around then kicked the bucket afterward.

He was just making sure he had some heirs.....LOL Yep CJ is my little bouncing Goober, I love him and he is happy as a lark with his odd little harem

Awww

Cyn, she's a darling little thing. I sure hope Tux doesn't become an "only" any time soon. Love the "hairdo" on Olivia!

I'll get it right one of these days!

Cyn those girls are so beautiful with the poufy heads. I am keeping her in my prayers, I hope Livvie just bounces back with your help.

I personally hate the fact that we spend every day watching our birds, looking them over, squeezing them and feeling them and we lose them for no darn reason and without warning or just rapidly. But the morons out there (venting about the flock about a mile from me) who let their flocks roost in the trees, run across the road, get killed on the road etc etc...maybe throw feed out for them every few days, never seem to have a problem like that. WTH is up with that? I mean my babies are in safe, dry coop with clean fresh water and food available....and yet I have walked in found one lying there dead...no warning. But these morons are letting their chickens eat out of used dirty oil pans and drinking rain water and such in mud puddles.

Makes me wonder sometimes. But I am not going to change, even if I do lose more.

And don't you dare change a thing lady! You, me, Cyn and the rest of us who take impeccable care of our babies, know that we're doing it right. And even if one of them dies unexpectedly, suddenly, or agonizingly slowly, we know we did everything right...that their lives, however unjustly brief it may be, has been the very best possible life we could provide them.

Ask yourself this: Do you really think the morons down the street have chickens that are as happy as yours are? I doubt it! I doubt it very much!

No Cetawin...don't change a thing you're doing with your babies. They're obviously some of the most well loved, well cared for, and (dare I say it?) most spoiled chickens around! Ain't nuffin wrong with that!
wink.png
Keep up the good work! Maybe someday the morons down the street will wake up and treat their chickies right. Until then, keep your chin up and just keep plugging away at what you do best....providing a loving, quality home for your babies!

Serrin I agree 100% with you...my birds (especially Thor and those Delaware girls) are spoiled absolutely rotten. They just had multigrain blueberry pancakes, scrambed eggs and grapes for breakfast.

It can get very disheartening at times though. I see those chickens down the road and it breaks my heart. They should be safe, secure and enjoying life not dodging vehicles, stupid kids with pellet and/or BB guns and predators in the trees. sheesh Just makes me sick and madder than HE**!

Gee! Can I come to your place for breakfast some day?

Sounds yummy!

I know what ya mean about the neighbors chickens....my neighbor could never be accused of not taking pretty good care of her girls when it comes to protection...but, the lengths she goes to to protect them, is counterbalanced with the fact that those poor girls never, EVER get to come out of their pen. It's just heartbreaking.

I see my girls ranging all over the place every day for a few hours at the very least, and then I look over there and see these poor little darlings huddled together under a tarp in their pen and yeah...
hit.gif
I wanna go over there and free them! To my knowledge, she doesn't even give them greens on a regular basis. Nothing but layer pellets, oyster shell (only because I told her that was why they were eating their eggs!
wink.png
) and water....that's it! Nothing more!

One day I sent over a big bundle of spinach and chard from my garden for her girls. It had gone too long in the garden and wasn't really fit for human consumption. Do you know what she did? SHE ate it!!
th.gif
I'm not kidding! She told me later that evening that she had fixed up the most wonderful salad for her and her family and that it was most yummy, thank you very much!

I just looked at her dumbfounded for a moment. "Woman!" I said, "I sent that over with your son so that your girls could have a nice yummy treat! If you had wanted some spinach and chard, why didn't you just come over and pick the good stuff!! Sheesh! That stuff was way too far gone!" And I had specifically told Morgan that those greens were for their girls!
roll.png

No matter how much she sees how happy and robust my girls are, she just won't let her girls out...she's afraid that an Osprey, of all things is going to swoop down and get one of her girls.
roll.png
Just to show how ridiculous that thinking is, Osprey for those who don't know, eat fish exclusively! NOT CHICKENS!

Anyhow, boy! We sure did get waaaaaaay off topic here, didn't we?

Cyn! How are Zane and Shadow coming along in being roomies? Are you still pursuing that goal? Or has the weather warmed up enough that you needn't even consider it any longer?

The photos of Shadow with Dad in front of the fireplace are so sweet!!!! Hope Olivia is better soon. It does seem unfair that we love our chicken children so much and try so hard to take good care of them and sometimes it still doesn't turn out the way we wish it would. You are obviously taking wonderful care of them and we are all hoping for the best for you and all the family fowls. Hugs!!
