Zane and Shadow...Roommates? (Cute Pic, post #79)

Hey Cyn....I've been thinking about Olivia and Kira...how are those two doing? Hope Olivia especially has made a good turn around after the antibiotics. When you have a moment, can you please let us know how either of the two girls is doing?

Thank you for asking about my girls. I'm not sure how either of them will come out. Olivia's abdomen is still not right. She keeps going to the nest to sit, then gets off when she can't produce an egg. Kira is acting more normally, but she is not laying at all now. Could be just Kira's molt, really. Livvie is the one that I am more concerned about. When I go sit on the steps, she comes up and will sit on my lap for ages, just communing with her mama. I'll miss that adorable little hen when she goes; she and her two sisters were a joy from the moment they hatched three years ago.

Haven't tried with Shadow and Zane again. I think maybe in better weather, I'll put them outside on the lawn together, but there is just too much going on to keep up my Shadow/Zane project right now. Thank goodness the weather is much warmer than it was back then.

There are never enough hours in the day are there? Thanks for the update Cyn. I'll keep on sending good healing Karma thoughts to the girls and Zane.

On a side note: I got my incubator out yesterday and fired it up, made myself very familiar with it and have the temperature stabilized!

I sure hope things quiet down for you real soon, cuz I'm about to bombard you and Cetawin with a TON of questions!

Oh no Serrin has gone to the "Hatching Side" stay out of her way

I will help however I can Serrin even if it is to sit here cheering the babies on at hatch time! "Go babies Go babies"

edited to add: Serrin you can only do what you can....nature does most of it for you. It will be the longest 19 - 22 days of your life though. hahahaha It was for me...worse than 9 months of pregnancy.

We have a neighbor down the road from us who has Ameraucana and maybe EE's...I'm not sure. But, I do know she has a roo! (Her daughter and our granddaughter both attend the same HS) Anyhow, Annie talked to her yesterday for me on their way to school, (Dawn drives the girls in every morning because they both have the same zero hour class and have to be there early) and she said she'd be happy to give me some fertile eggs to do a test run on my bator.

I would still love to acquire some of your eggs Cyn and Cetawin. But, for my first run, I think maybe it would be best to get the eggs from as close to home as possible. Don't you? She even said there is a guy in Cheney who has Maran eggs available. Though I'm not sure I want to start out with an egg that is soooo dang dark that they're nearly impossible to candle (or so I've heard!

Oooooh! What have you girls done to me!?!?!
he.gif
I've got nothing but bators and hatching on my brain!
barnie.gif
I can see where this is going...oh yes I can! I'm going to become an eternal slave to hatching! And it's all your fault Oh yes it is!! Don't deny it!! All this talk of who came from where and so-and-so is the son/daughter of such-and-such..and it doesn't help that y'all have some of the prettiest chickens I've ever seen!
droolin.gif
Then you go and dangle the possibility of eggs in front of my eyes? Oh yeah! This is all y'alls fault!!!
gig.gif
Don't blame me when I drive ya up the wall with questions and requests for eggs! Just remember! Y'all started me down this path to ruin!!

<<<hangs head in shame>>> sorry, didn't mean to make you do it, Amy.

Well, if you really believe that...LOL. I think a first run with local eggs is good. I just set 43 eggs myself, 1 too many for my turner, so I have to hand turn one egg till the first candling and a slot opens up for it.

No, Cynthia!! I'm not buying that repentant look one little bit lady!! You knew darn good and well what you were doing!..... And thank you for doing it!

I've got the feeling that this is going to be even better than raising chickies or having adult girls! Just the very thought of nurturing eggs from start to finish has me going

Well, my latest obstacle now, is a Hygrometer!
barnie.gif
I hit three places while we were in town rounding up more building materials for the house. Luckily the Aslin Finch store is right next door to the Home Depot!
wink.png
Unluckily, they didn't have what I was looking for.

And their one and only bottle of pour on Ivermectin had a leak in it. Even more unluckily, I didn't notice it until I had pulled the bottle from inside the box and got it all over my hands!

You should have seen me Cetawin! I was all but in a panic in the middle of the feed store! "Water!! Somebody get me water! NOW!!! OMG! I'm gonna end up like Cetawin!"

They all looked at me like I'm nuts and just calmly pointed in the general direction of the ladies room!

How much of that stuff did you spill on yourself Cetawin that you ended up getting sick? Or did you not wash it off quickly enough? I managed to get it off of me within less than a minute I think. I still feel fine...or is this something that's going to hit me first thing in the morning???

Or worse yet, in the middle of the night??

Anyhow, I'm on the great quest for a Hygrometer now. Somebody in the Incubating and Hatching's forum mentioned that they picked one up last year at Wally World. Any ideas on what is a reasonable price for a small unit, suitable for inside my Little Giant bator with the self turner rack?

I've been finding all kinds of Hygrometers on the internet, but, without seeing them and putting my hands right on them, it's kind of hard to judge if it's going to fit in there properly.

So, naturally, any advice on that subject is always appreciated. Cyn? Cetawin? Hey! Come on! You two ladies are my self appointed Guru's after all, aren't you?
