Zane Made REAL Progress (New Pics Pg 99)!RIP Lorelei...

Zane is living in the broody pen that is inside Suede's coop. He lays on the floor right next to his food and water. We bring him out for some sun and a dustbath every day, but he isn't doing much dustbathing right now. He doesn't have to jump or do anything stressful so if he can recover, I think he will. Maybe with time and rest, he'll be okay. I make him scrambled eggs with chopped garlic every day and he has been getting AviaCharge in his water, too. He doesn't eat all of the eggs, but he will eat more of them if we hand feed him. He just has to get better! He's the sweetest boy. He's so, so much like his daddy, it'd be like losing Hawkeye all over again.

Awww, sheepdip, Cyn!!!

i'm so hoping that Zane will be fine given time...I had Penny almost in the hole on Wed, but she seems better... limping, but she's got a strong spirit...she has to, to put up with Obelisk...
I'll say some prayers to the chicken God for our babies. Hugs

Please know I am thinking of you and understand. I lost one of my sweet English Cockers 3 wks ago and yesterday, I had to put her mother to sleep as well. I am the one who is depressed so I know how your boy feels. Try to keep food and water in him until he can get past this.

I just caught up with this. So sorry to hear that Zane is not doing well. I lost a sweet girl to a broken heart also two years back so I know how sad it can be. I also have seen the Good Lord heal my sweet Muffy girl when it looked as if all was lost. I will pray for you and Zane. God is Good and HE can & will heal any of His Creation be it HIS will. I pray that HE does desire the restoration of Zane to good health and a happy heart. HE loves chickens too! After all HE created them and speaks of them in regards of HIS care for His people. May your eyes rest on HIM who is the maker and creator of All Things.

Oh Cyn, I'm so sorry to hear Zane isn't doing much better.
I know you already know this but chickens can be tough as nails. I swear my Sunny was hours away from death from a hard moult & nearly freezing this winter, I brought her in the house in a dog kennel & gave her full attention. It took over a week for her to show real improvement, she wasn't eating, drinking or hardly pooping when i brought her in.
I believe you can nurse him back to health, I'm sure he's having some pain issues now but we've all seen the pictures of terrible injuries chickens live through.
I've gotta believe he will get better!!! Keep going with the scrambled eggs, I had freeze dried meal worms that Sunny liked when she was sick.
good luck Cyn

Thanks for the encouragement, Kelly. I'm not giving up on him. He's too special to me. He'll get his eggs and special feed, anything he'll eat. He has some aspirin in his water for pain and vitamins, whatever perks him up. I think I have a broody now, so I'm going to move the seven pullets, who are approaching 17 weeks old, in with the main flock and out of the Firetower coop, move broody Olivia into the broody pen, then move Zane into the Firetower coop. Hopefully, if there is swelling, it will subside and his pain will lessen and his appetite will come back and he'll have a long happy life with lots of lovely ladies.
