So sorry for your loss. I have a pretty 2yr old Australorp, MeToo, who sadly is fading fast. I had hope for the last few days that she would turn around but as of this eve it doesn't look good. This came on her rather quickly, in the last two weeks, & she had always been the picture of health before this. Sigh!

I'm so glad to hear that your other girls have been making a nice turn around and that Zane is hang'n in there.

Thanks, Adam. Henry, Ruby is almost back to normal. She growled and pedaled her feet when we picked her up and didn't want to come in, made us chase her around the compost pile, LOL. That's our Ruby! Rosemary seems good, too. They just aren't laying again and that's fine, I just want to know that they can, but they need the rest for now. We showed Violet her sister's body, so maybe she will understand somehow in her little brain why her sister isn't with her now. I don't know and maybe it was useless, but it made me feel better that I tried to help her understand why Lorelei suddenly disappeared.
Zane is still hanging in there. He didn't get out today-too much rain and lightening, but he is still eating and doing everything except walking and crowing. I wish he'd crow.

Thanks, Jean. How long do you think I should give Zane to recover? It's been since the second week of April I think since he was injured, but he has only been completely non-mobile for about 4 weeks. I guess the swelling was progressive, so that's why he was walking originally afterward and got worse and worse.

I hope that the fact that it was a progressive injury means that it was not catostrophic for him and that he can heal. I really hope he starts getting better. I am in a constant battle with my neighbors friends little white bichon dog and he aperantly thinks he can take on my hens and they do to  yesterday I grabbed him and just opened the door to their house and booted him in and said please just look outside and make sure the chickens aren't out. I think it worked or their friend left most of the neighbors dogs are good with the hens but I guess this little one isnt and he is going to get killed by my dog if he goes after them inside her fence

Cyn, just a thought here............how do you think Zane would react to a strange roo's crow??? Is it possible for him to hear another bird crowing? It might cause him to take notice and jar something in his little brain? Like he had better step up to the plate and crow to show he is the dominant one? I hope this makes sense?
