Zane - healing can be such a slowwwwwwwwww thing - hopefully he get sstronger in time. If his appetite is good and he is interested in the world around him then he is likely not in bad pain. How to prevent atrophy without overstraining during healing is that delicate difficult balance. Where are the chicken physical therapists of the world when we need them?!!!
I am glad Ruby and Rosemary are improving - it's just the funniest darn thing when they give you a run for your money, as Ruby did (such a good sign!). Whenever Betty used to steal a whole grape from me before I had a chance to cut it up - as Annie also does now - Betty then and Annie now runs like he77 grape in beak, knowing I didn't want them to do that. It cracks me up every time. They knew/know that it cracks mne up and I think it eggs them on (pun not intended!).
I think you probably did the right thing for Violet. When I brought deceased Betty home from the vets I wasn't sure whether I should show her to BJ because he was heartbroken enough as it was that she was "missing" - but then I did - perhaps too briefly - and she was mostly wrapped up.
Looking forward to the day when Zane crows again.
