I got rid of all my galvanized waterers, and put the plastic ones in storage. Now the chickens have those little 2 gallon buckets, 7 in all. I find that it's so easy to dump them out daily or twice daily. It's easy to top them off. And when it's hot, it's easy to add a chunk of ice to each one. As I've recently learned from horses at a barn, seems like a treat to dump out the warm water and refill with nice cool water.
So, now I have 7 pens with the little 2 gallon buckets ($4-5) and each pen has a chamber pot for feet with a bucket over it that gets lowered every night over the feed bowl.
