Zodiac Hatch-A-Long - Waxing Moon in Fruitful Signs HAL

The broody white leghorns were over 40 or 50 years ago. We had 100+ that free ranged an orchard. We had about 3 broody cages hanging from the ceiling of the henhouse and it seems like there was always one in jail.

The black raised several broods for me.
Others like anconas and minorcas have never gone broody for me.
I usually have broody Penedesencas. Once I had 9 of 11 pullets all go broody together in a community nest.

Doing a Zodiac hatch along sounds interesting. I just placed some Frizzled Olive Eggers and Swedish Flower in the incubator. This will also be my first time incubating eggs. Crossing my fingers for a successful hatch

I don't think they're the same line. If I'm not mistaken, he got his on an Ebay bid from somewhere on the east coast.
Mine came from 2 sources, Georgia and a guy in MO that had a pair. I got a couple pullets from the latter. They were right in all respects except egg color. Lay tons of huge eggs but not dark at all. One died of cancer a year ago. I sparingly used them for breeding hoping crossing with mine might make for darker shells in the offspring but they are just barely darker than the moms so that endeavor was a bust.
My original birds from GA had a few flaws in feather color but otherwise nice with great egg color. The cocks had some red in the hackles or worse - more than a little. The hens have some white mottling. I've just about cleaned all that up but had a huge setback when most of my birds were killed by mink last year.
I'm going to be weeding out all the birds with less than dark eggs. I've been searching for more stock but there are virtually none so in the meantime I'm just working with what I have.

Here's some eggs I just hatched from a few days ago.
@Hangtown Farms has black Penedesencas I'm pretty sure. Not sure if he's selling eggs right now though.

Jason had my black rooster. The hen died last winter.

I just edited the first post to give more accurate setting times and days to get chicks to hatch within the fruitful moon sign window.

So he doesn't have any?
We were to trade eggs.
Do you have any pure blacks? Where are they from?
I have partridge penedesencas. Jason has crele, partridge from me and Black. I have not seen posts from @Hangtown Farms in quite some time. He may be on the 530 poultry facebook page.

Pretty rare or closely held. I believe I had the largest flock in North America a year ago, unless someone knows better. I keep anywhere from 25-100 which includes 20-50 layers.
