Quote: Well they crap on the bedding and if they was laying in there that would make dirty eggs so it is best to keep them out of there at night. And it can also make the hens go broody by being in the nest for long periods of time.

Just a question why isn't it ok for the chickens to sleep in the nests at night? We have about 7 who roost but three that like to sleep in the nesting areas? We use to have nesting boxes but no one ever used them so they nest either on a shelf or in the bedding on the floor under the shelf. I...

Give her a call she will be more then happy to get rid of them. I picked up about 15 poles with nipples. She is in Luling. Give her a call she has a barn full...

    bumble foot?

Thank you I was afraid I was going to have to lance it. We soaked it in epsom salts and let her rest in the house for a while. I don't she smashed it in a door, no doors for her to smash it with and on the inside of her foot so the pecking is out too. I will soak it again tomorrow and neosporin...

    bumble foot?

I have a hen that has a scab on the side of her foot but not on the bottom, its swollen but not to bad but she keeps raising it like a flamingo and wants to stand on it but keep bringing it back up. She just sits there like she is laying. I've read that bumble foot has a scab on the pad and...

    sparrows

Thanks everyone for the replies. We've decided to replace the screen with chicken wire so maybe that will help since they have been popping the staples when they try to find their way out. My son wants me to buy him a pellet gun so he can get them but he's at school most of the day so that...

    sparrows

Hi read all the posts about sparrows. We just redid our run and thought we had it perfect but we still have sparrow problems and they will only come out when we open the door. They are horrible!! Any more ideas out there? I thought about hanging CDs around the run, I remember my grandmother...

Wow what a great flock. I wish we had more land, we live in town and we have 7 hens and I think right now we are at our limit (not town limit), we get to many eggs at the moment as it is. I would love the Japenese roo but I have been out voted by the family.

Nice looking coops. You should be careful with the coop being wrapped in chicken wire, a raccoon can tear that apart or reach thru and snag a chicken. You should cover the bottom with a smaller gridded panel. Ours has chicken wire around the top but smaller around the bottom.

Welcome back and so sorry for your loss. I'm glad you were able to find the thread I don't think any of our 7 hens would ever allow us to see down their throats. They allow us to hold them and pet them but they are like our cats it on their terms and when they are done with us they let us know.
