Just stopping by to say 'hi' -- been so long since I've been on BYC. Spending all my time on the FB groups. lol Hope all is well. Sharing a pic of Oscar, son of Phillipe. He's 7 months old -- and boy, oh, boy I can't wait to see him in another 7 months. He's so beautiful already. :)

There will be a "Silkie Social" on the Friday night before the show. Talk to Vickie Harry about whether or not a lunch is being planned on the Saturday. If not, maybe you could plan one...set up a table, hang the Silkie banner the club has, and bring some chairs. We did this at the Virginia show...

If I had a bird that appeared to be suffering from Marek's symptoms I would most likely euthanize. But I would NOT euthanize the rest of my flock. Marek's is everywhere, and most backyard flocks have had exposure from wild birds, birds brought in, etc. It's ubiquitous, so to euthanize the whole...

Where are you located. I might have a few cockerels to choose from (definitely bearded), but I'm not shipping so we'd need to be close. I'm in NC.

On what genetic grounds are you disagreeing, Suze? Fused toes are not distinctly different from polydactyl in general, and are known as "duplicate polydactyly" -- which is dominant and can result in duplicates of toes, nails, and even entire feet. Thus, having a bird with a fused toe is no...

Ugh...hate those kinds of toes. If it's just the nail itself...like a big fat toe with two nails nearly fused together then that's better than having a lobster claw, which is when the two nails are separated and there are unique joints or phalanges or bones at the end of the toe. I've tried...

In the grand scheme of things I'd be going with the bird with the nice color and good wings. Eyes should be black, but anything dark is reasonable in my opinion. The only exception would be the pigment holes that show up in the eyes of birds with paint genetics, where you might have gold...

    Exploding Heat Lamp

We had a heat lamp fall onto our brooder and actually caught fire to part of the cover. The brooder was in the house and could have burned down our home if not for the fact that we were here at the time and smelled the smoke. I immediately ordered the Brinsea brooder and have used it ever since...

    Silkie thread!

I find it all the same, actually -- useless. Don't mean to sound harsh, but I bought into the DE thing back in the day. However, I have never had any benefit from DE and having now read what little scientific research on it I can find I have concluded that much of what we hear about DE is just...

Week Old Silkie Question...My silkies dont like me! (PICS)

I didn't read this whole thread, so maybe somebody has already said this, but I don't find Silkies all that "friendly". Docile, yes, more so than some of my other birds, but not more "friendly". Only rarely do I have a bird that doesn't mind being picked up or one that talks a lot to my shoes...
