Hi there guys! I know it's been forever since I've been on. Most of you probably won't even know me anymore. I got married and moved out of my parents' house (obviously) and don't have chickens anymore, so I've not had a need to post. But anyway, I was at my parents' house today and my mom told...
My leghorn hen hopped the fence into the neighbor's yard today and their german shepherd got ahold of her. :( Her tail area is pretty ripped up. Will giving her Tylan 50 help prevent infection? I know it's mostly for respiratory infections, but does it help with skin infections?
My hens used to be completely free range, but due to the rise in predator problems, they are always kept in the coop now. We are in the process of building a run, but it isn't completed yet. They aren't getting enough sun or calcium right now. They still healthy, nice bright combs, shiny...
I picked up 4 little bantam babies at Atwoods today and could use some help figuring out what they are.
I think 1 is either a Gold Dutch or a bantam Brown Leghorn, because it looks exactly like this
(internet pic)
The other dark one I believe to be a Gold Sebright because it looks just like...
I noticed yesterday that both of one of my pullet's eyes were swollen. One way worse than the other. I took her in and started her on tylan 50. Just now I decided to soak the bad eye with a warm wet rag and it opened up to reveal a nasty cheese like substance. It doesn't stink. No other...
I walked outside to feed this morning and noticed my Brown Leghorn standing alone in a corner, all puffed up with her eyes closed. I picked her up (without a fight, which is a bad sign) and carried her in. She is very skinny, so she hasn't been eating much. I started her on Tylan 50 immediately...
My parents and I were out building a nice, big run for our flock since we've had so many predator problems recently. I noticed my bantam hen and her "baby" (who's now bigger than she is) standing nearby, but Mommy Hen was not acting right. I looked closer and the entire left side of her face was...
Oh. My. Goodness. For the first year of raising chickens we didn't have hardly any predator problems. August of 2012 we had a huge dog attack where a pack of 5 or so dogs came and ripped up almost all of our chickens, and ever since them, predator problems like CRAZY! It's like they went around...
My sister just came running in holding my favorite chick (hatched today by my bantam hen) with half of his face missing and the back of his neck horrible bloody! She said yellow jackets were eating him!! He couldn't breathe, so I had my dad kill him. One of her other chicks is missing half of...
Okay, so long story short, while butchering some meaties I found out my flock had round worms. Again. I have Wazine 17 on hand, which is what I used to treat them last time. (Yes, I know it only treats adult round worms and not the full infestation. I'm working on that part.) My question is...
My buff orpington is hatching babies as we speak. Overnight, or sometime this morning, one of her babies hatched, but something went wrong. I don't know what's wrong with him, though. I found the shell he hatched out of and it was unusually soggy, with a bit of yolk and blood left in it. He has...
Okay. I have had chickens for about a year and a half. I've hatched most of my flock and all but a couple I've raised from chick. They have all grown and thrived (with a few exceptions, of course but as a general rule they've don excellently)
My bantan hen hatched out 6 babies about a year ago...
*sigh* I was so enjoying the winter months with no flies. But they are back again, full force. How do you manage your fly problem? Any ideas, tips, and hints are welcome!
One of my meat birds is dying right now of heart attack or flip over or whatever. Can I stop it? What do I do?
I'm sorry for the double post mods. I wasn't sure where to post this and I need help right now, so I figured I'd chance it.

I'm getting a pair of rats! I'm getting a pair of rats!
I've been trying to convince my parents to let me get rats forever! They finally said if they didn't have to pay for them, and they never EVER smelled them, I could have them. So, I'm setting up their cage tonight, and I'll start buying...
Okay, I'm not really sure where to post this so mods feel free to move it. I need response ASAP.
Long story short, my silkie and cochin went broody on the same day 21 days ago. A few chicks hatched early. After some deaths, rain and a few very stressful days despite my best efforts, both hens...
It is 43*F tonight and it's not supposed to get below 41*F. Paisley and Sage are almost 3 weeks old. They are in a chicken tractor. The walls are covered with plastic. They have a rabbit cage inside the tractor, also covered in plastic, lined with hay, with a heat lamp over it.
It is...
Mu ducklings are 2 weeks old. Sage, the Khaki Campbell, has just started almost humming a little sometimes. When she and Paisley are peeping together, every now and then Sage has a little "Hm" added in the background. It's so odd. Is this her starting to get her "big girl voice"?
There are all assorted pullets from TSC (please ignore the messy room. We are in the middle of re-organizing)

Theey all came from Ideal Hatchery. I have no idea what any of them are. Any ideas?
Not trying to be snarky, I've just been wondering. From what I read, geese only lay like 30 eggs a year. I know a lot of you don't use them for meat, so what is their use? Are they just pets? I love poultry and so far I've only had chickens and ducks. I'm trying to learn about other kinds of...
