I don't know. Everything, this batch of hens I have now are the worst layers, I got them in 2015 about this time. I got an ok number of eggs for the first year but this last year I have had to buy eggs at first off and on and for the last 6 months regularly. Mind you its been 120 and I would...
I don't know that I got all of them in the photos but there are 5 babies, I think 4 are easter eggers and one is black with a yellow belly not sure what that will be.
Also, i would like to note that in browsing the discussion I was confused when the talk of spedo's turned into a picture of a goat.... now please post the picture of your goat in spedos. ;)
Not to brag or anything but its still a balmy 85 here in Phoenix AZ.
Chick update - 5 healthy chicks outside with my broody to mother. The one who was having trouble still could not lift its head this morning or even flip to the other side to lay down. I chose to euthanize it before the kids...
Yeah maybe next year LOL. I should have just stuck them all under my hen and let her do the work. But I wanted the kids to see some hatch. I had 15 eggs and looks like 5 or 6 will live and that is plenty for the space I have. Its not that great a hatch rate though.
Thanks, The first four were good, the last three, two in there now and the one that died seemed to have very small air cells to, and the one that died the shell was so hard and thick I couldn't see through it at all. I had a darker olive egg and could see through that one fine. Chick was...
well, the egg had stopped peeping, still could not see anything through it. Opened it up and the chick was gone. Now I wish I had just started cracking it a few hours ago.
You might have, I'm new to this particular subject. I only know something was in it as I was getting ready to toss the eggs that had not piped. Its the last one though and the rest are hatched.
Hello Sally, How long would you recommend waiting to crack a shell on a chick you can hear peeping and moving inside but has not managed to Pip through the shell?
Thanks
Yeah, the woman I got them from told me some of them should be lavender but we will see. I have one who I have no idea where the air sack is, I have pulled some of the shell off since they were not making much noise, now they are all chirpy pants. One is a dark olive and I can't see through it...
I have no idea what I'm hatching. I got an assortment from a local person most are easter eggers. I have one lavender something in there, but it's not looking like its going to come out anytime soon and I may have to help its membrane is dry.
I have gotten chicks from the feed store many...
Anyone have any experience with this thing? Its instructions are terrible, as in missing half the words in a sentence. We are on day 19 and no signs of peeping yet, I took the eggs out of the turn tray and put them on the hatching try and now we are waiting.
