I think you should go to 1/4 inch or 1/2 inch mesh hardware cloth to keep out snakes, rats, mice, weasels, and other skinny vermin. It should be on all sides and the bottom, unless you have a solid bottom or top. I see you have a wood bottom which should work unless it has holes. Good luck...

On the subject of hay it is best to not to feed them to animals that have a problem with mold since they are stored outside and can get quite moldy. I was feeding round bales to my horses a few (maybe more than a few!) years ago. Had a problem and had the vet out. He took care of the problem...

Ideal hatchery back on line, sort of.

    My silkies found me attractive!

I was kneelling down near my silkies trying to be not too threatening when one bird gave a chirp and they all came charging to me! I was feeling pretty darned pleased with my self when I looked up and 2 buzzards were circling over us. Oh well I will take what appriciation I can get. Also...

    Silkie thread!

6 x22= 132. 12 x16 =192. So if my math is correct then the 12 x 16 will give them 60 more square feet to do what chickens do. But then it is not all about how big it is.
