Hi--
I have an easter egger mix (bantee and easter egger, presumably) that used to crow like a rooster (I kid you not) at 20 weeks. But then she became my first layer...of adorable green eggs at about 22 weeks. She laid for about four weeks, then went broody. I broke her of it and she started...
Hi All,
My 24-week-old easter egger just started laying about 2-3 weeks ago. Well, four days ago I caught her in the nesting box over night. She continued this into the day time. I've moved her out myself a few times and she starts to eat and "play" with the others in the run, but the next...
14.5 weeks old. No crowing but already molting. All my other Roos crowed by ten weeks. I'm thinking they are boys, but just in case I'm wrong...could they look more like a hen after their molting??? They are getting new feathers all over their bodies and heads.
Updated pics from a nervous daddy here haha. Do y'all think she's a pullet still? Wattles and comb are still flesh colored at this age, I don't see any red. Feathering looks pretty plain. She clucks like the big girls in the coop. Thoughts?
So out of curiosity, once a rooster has figured out it's full-throttle adult crow, can you count on it to crow daily? The reason I ask is that I have a bird that seems to crow only once a week--maybe twice? But it goes DAYS and DAYS without crowing. We are questioning whether it is a girl or boy...
So...this little one is SO SWEET and cute as a button, and can barely see so spooks itself constantly causing giggles from us all.
I'm pretty sure that it's a cockerel based on it's somewhat spiky hairdo, myself, though I haven't seen any hackles/sickle/tail feathers and the wattles/comb are...
Hi All,
Just fishing for feedback on this one. She is 20-weeks, but was crowing or squawking this morning--quite loudly. I see no rooster feathering anywhere, however, and I have been waiting for eggs--not crows. Do you think this is a pullet or a cockerel? It is a marans/aracuana mix.
I thought this was a girl at first, based on the bouffant, but it's only 9 weeks old and has huge red wattles. I think it's developing hackles on its neck too. So, a boy? I'm pretty sure but would love the opinions of experts.
Hi! So here are a few updated pics. Number 1 is buff polish, and I think cockerel. Number 2 is SLW and I hope a pullet. Number 3 was tagged as a copper marans, but looks nothing like one in my opinion (zero copper anywhere, only tips of white on a few of its feathers and around its eyes??? What...
Hi all!
So I thought this was a rooster copper marans because of the comb development at four weeks. The feed store bin said it was a sexed marans bin, but...
Well, this chick is 7 weeks old now and the comb hasn't changed colors at all. Nor has it grown wattles. Thick legs for sure it does...
So these two are about six weeks old. I'm hoping the first one is still a girl (she's a SLW) and I'm not sure on the buff polish. I already got rid of one of my SLWs because it was a boy so I'm hoping I didn't get horrible luck in picking two boys lol. Thoughts from the experts?
My black polish was crowing (not perfectly, but it was crow-ish to me) this morning. I've thought he was a cockerel anyway, but can they grow at this early of an age? He's only about six weeks old.
Hi Everyone,
I have six chicks entering their sixth week that I would like to move from the brooder box into the main coop. The temps here in Oregon are very warm, so I am not worried about them being cold (but they are nearly completely feathered out anyway).
I already have two hens that...
Ok ok ok I know. The bird is probably too young. She's 3-4 weeks old (the feed store didn't have a precise date but I'm leaning to four weeks). I gave away one already because his comb and wattles had developed and turned red by THREE WEEKS! Anyway, I'm hoping this cutie is looking like a girl...
These cuties are four weeks now. I'm pretty sure the solid black one is male as he is an inch taller than the others, has the thickest legs, is the most aggressive and has a Mohawk.
The gold laced looks like it has a Mohawk in one picture but it is really rounded head on. I just didn't take a...
So I picked up this "girl" and wondered if it's too soon to call it a boy. It's taller then the nine others in the brooder. It's a SLW. Huge tail feathers already. But this biggest reason I ask is because it is SO aggressive! Flutters around the box and lands on the other chicks, pecks, even...
These two are at 12 weeks old now. Their three siblings I've given away already because they started crowing. I'm hoping that these last two are hens at least. :/. Thoughts?
So I was convinced this was a girl until the last few days. But being new...so here are a few pics. What do you experts say about the gender of this one?
