Checking-In On Peeps - Post Here To Say Hello!

I'm still alive! Just building a homestead in the desert, along with all the challenges that go with that.

What did you do in the garden today?

Lol, right now it's a mess. There's a chance of rain today, and since I have no rain capture set up and we're hauling water, I threw two empty tubs down where the RV sheds its water in hopes of catching something. Then I tried to get my new clothes line installed, but there's a part that needs...

What did you do in the garden today?

Successful move to the homestead. We are exhausted from all the doings. Internet setup should arrive tomorrow, and once that’s set I should be able to get to work on getting some ginormous semi tires set up for gardening. We are late in the season here but nothing for it!

What did you do in the garden today?

Huh, what a brilliant way to reuse yogurt containers. Never would have thought of that

What did you do in the garden today?

Built a brooder this weekend (in the garden of course ). I've got one thing left to do before it's done, but the hardware cloth is on and that's always the part that's hardest. At least that's what my sore, stiff hands are saying today! Slowly checking things off on the pre-move checklist...

What did you do in the garden today?

Sooooo..... We're going to look like kicked ants this week. Hubby decided he wants to move out to the homestead immediately. My list of things to do is long, and my time is short. He also wants to get a garden going asap out there. :th Y'all wish me luck. Things are about to get a little crazy...

What did you do in the garden today?

I pulled my second, and perhaps last, collard green harvest tonight. So amazingly sweet despite the fact that they’re bolting! Yes, sadly we had an 80f day last week and another just today, so that’ll probably be the end of them. I need a more climate controlled space to grow greens year round...

What did you do in the garden today?

I found out last year the hard way about the full sun/50% sun. A shade cloth on the garden was the only reason I got some of the stuff I got. I did have good luck planting just a couple of trees late. I put them in after the rains in August, and they grew and were happy until our first frost...

What did you do in the garden today?

Thank you! I'll check out these varieties. We do get a hard freeze at least once every year, but frost sensitive trees I would put in the greenhouse and keep them trimmed to dwarf size.

What did you do in the garden today?

Thanks! I've got 10-14 inches of rain per year to work with, so things like swales and ditches and super heavy mulching are top of the list. I was surprised to see melon varieties that are drought resistant, I always thought of them as being water heavy.

What did you do in the garden today?

Working on assembling a master list of extreme heat/drought tolerant veggies and fruit tree varieties. Intense heat, warm arid desert, borderline desert technically because we get 14 inches of rain each year and not less than 10. I’m taking variety suggestions if anyone wants to @ me, I’d be...

What did you do in the garden today?

Nothing much happening but scheming at the moment. This last week.... Well. Things went south hard and fast there for a bit. Light duty wasn't going to fix the problem, the problem was already beyond fixing sadly. I'm recovering, nearly feel normal again, itching to garden but we've moved up our...

What did you do in the garden today?

My landlady has an old bathtub in her yard that she turned into a planter, and I've seen toilets on lawns with flowers growing out of the bowl. Why not? Lol!

    Feed Tests - More Results

All right, thanks for the results y'all! Much love to people who have paid out of pocket and spent a lot of their personal time to bring us all some reassurance. I for one, am satisfied. Scratch one conspiracy theory. Hilariously though, this whole nonsense ended up landing me a feed-for-eggs...

What did you do in the garden today?

The only thing I did in the garden today was watch hubby relocate the dirt from a raised bed to a more permanent raised bed. I'm stuck on light duty restrictions. *much grumbling* I also tracked down my seed starting tray that was outside when a wind storm hit. Half of it was in the neighbor's...

I'm Sending Feed to be Analyzed

If I had to eat bugs to live, I might starve. If it's spiders, I guarantee I'd starve.

What did you do in the garden today?

Hey out of curiosity, does anybody have an absolutely favorite pickled egg recipe they adore that they could throw my way?

What did you do in the garden today?

I picked up some seeds and some seed potatoes at the store on... wanna say Saturday? It all blends together, lol. I grabbed a few small bags of container soil, ordered some nice compost, ordered some seed starting domes, and I'll be getting all that going in a day or two. Got a bit of a backlog...

What did you do in the garden today?

Even though my gardening is on pause at the moment, I’m still using last years okra in gumbo. Mmm mmm gumbo! It improves the flavor significantly to use okra from my garden, even though it’s frozen doesn’t seem to matter.

I'm Sending Feed to be Analyzed

I can tell you personally that I haven't gotten my feed tested yet purely because that's not an area in which I have any experience, and I wasn't sure where to start or whether it was even worth it. I switched feeds on the off chance it was the food preventing the girls from laying. Switching...
