Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Just "found" this thread, and have found it wonderful. I just love reading the stories and seeing the pics of Gods creation at work. Anyway, I found this thread because I was seeking information about my broody orpington. We have been gone for 4 days, and found her sitting on 12 eggs when we...

I've been just lurking for quite a while as I have been just too busy to spend much time on the net. My DH got us a lovely herd of goats which I just love and 2 Livestock guardian puppies to protect all of our animals. I will say that there have been no more possums and coons lurking about...

I haven't posted for a long time, but thought you all would appreciate this. I currently have 15 birds in a mixed flock--6 months old, and 2 in a mini flock... that I hatched from eggs that Kathyinmo sent me. The two are a Del pullet, and what I believe is a Jersey giant cockerel. So far...

So sorry, those darn hawks. I was very thankful that our Livestock Guardian Puppies (3 months old) barked away a raccoon last night. Already they are worth their weight in gold. They live with the goats but seem to protect the whole yard. Tonight, while the chickens were out around the yard...

That egg is huge--almost 3 inches long if it was in my hand. Poor, sweet sweet bird. Think about carrying that thing around for 24 hours. What a good girl.

Rancher, seems to be some inflamation in both the comb and legs. Not sure what it is. Have you tried a post on the site in general to get more feedback? You all, I know I don't say much but just want to say that this is one of the most friendly group of people I know. I just love getting...

Kathy, empathy with the family chaos. I have one son that seems to mix like oil and water with his Dad. They got into a huge argument and son left saying he was going to live out of his car . Yesterday, he came back at dads invitation, they talked it out and he will be home for a bit longer...

Oh my goodness Yard Full O Rocks. It seems like you are always working your behind off for your work. I am so sorry, and will certainly keep you in my prayers. I know this is a stressful time, but I know that God has a plan for you, not for calamity but for good. And to join the...

I noticed that too. I was wondering if it was just chick personalities. But now that you say it. Perhaps it was vantage point related. The ones I raised up in the air sure are more friendly than the others........ Moved my 5 wk old Dels outside today to the chicken tractor...Right next to...

Kathy, praying here for Brittany and baby. At least her WBC have dropped a little. How about the fever? Remember, those pregnancy hormones can wreck havoc with migraines. Perhaps the combo of bad infection and pregnancy have really triggered unusual migraines. We do see an increase in...

My 4 week old del chicks are holding to my last post. One Cockerel and one Pullet. I am so happy that I have a Del pullet. Now I will just have to make a decision on which Roo to keep. Or maybe like I have said all along, I will put Red in the stew pot and keep Lucky and Ellis. We will see...

Cetawin, I just love your descriptions. You really should write a book. Sounds like you handled it better than I ever could have. When I get angry, I tear up and loose all of the wonderful angry effect. You however could give lessons. I mean you had your point and made it with a bang...

Who else is waiting the impossible wait?

I have BO's, PR's, Aussies, Partridge rocks, and red sexlinks. At least 2 or each breed look like they might be laying soon--red and growing combs. There is someone spending time in the boxes, just no eggs yet.
