My neighbor is getting upset! HELP!

I'm sorry for my delay in response. First off, I'd like to report that the young birds grew all new primary wing feathers and this was the reason for them going over the fence. Second, after discovering this, we reclipped the one wing and the opposite wing and this corrected the issue! I had...

My neighbor is getting upset! HELP!

I free range my chickens and have a 4', chain link, fully fenced yard. I have had chickens for 3 years and have not had this problem. The younger birds that I added to the flock this Spring are hopping up on the fence and going into the neighbors yard every day. I have clipped one wing on...

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

I am interested in why people keep adding Mother ACV in there? From what I read, you only need a starter the first time you get it going. The starter can be yogurt, Mother ACV or Cultured Buttermilk. Is this true? Mine definitely smells and looks right.

    introducing a new coop

My girls took 3 nights to catch on after I carried them. I allowed them to go into the old coop and roost, then I carried then manually, one by one, into the new coop every night. 3 nights later, they automatically went into their new digs on their own. I was pretty happy!!!

    Egg production drop off

My egg production is definitely affected by the heat. I think the lack of rain has something to do with the drop. We have been unseasonably hot and dry in New York. I have 6 laying hens right now. On days in the mid 80's and above, they lay less eggs, probably 3 or 4. When the days are low...

    QUESTION: About Predators...

We have had a difficult year with preds. Nothing last year, but this year has been much different. First, I live in a subdivision and "free range". By free range, I mean that I have a fully fenced yard (4 foot chain link), but there is no run and they have the whole yard to range. Second, I...

    My Coop Project (Pic Heavy)

Sooo, the other coon that was trying to save his buddy this morning that I had written about earlier... He was in the same tree that he climbed to escape my clubbing when I returned from logging tonight at 8:00 PM. Let's just say he mysteriously fell from said tree and is no longer with us...

    My Coop Project (Pic Heavy)

Great stuff, Rock!!! I appreciate it very much. I will be doing this as I have caught 4 young ones and a big female. I heard a strange noise this morning coming from the trap and I went out to investigate. The one I have in the trap is calling a distress call and a another little one is...

    My Coop Project (Pic Heavy)

Gotcha. Well, I am catching coons almost every time I set up the trap. Got my 4th last night. A little guy, but a coon nonetheless. There are tracks all around my coop every night. there are many trees around my coop so the rain (not that there has been any!) doesn't reach the soil...

    Rhode Island Red sex

I'm leaning toward saying rooster, but I also agree that it looks like a NHR, not a RIR. I have 3 NHR and it looks just like mine, the black on the tailfeathers, not that deep rusty color of the RIR... Sal

    My Coop Project (Pic Heavy)

Last night I trapped another coon. That is 3 coon and a possum in a few weeks. I am not sure if there are any more coons, as I have trapped all of the ones that have been seen around by my surrounding neighbors. Setting the trap here and there would be wise though, I am thinking. Remember, I...

Hey Gang! Whatcha think of my plans and Rooster issue?

I have never had my hens poop in the nesting boxes. I guess I am fortunate. Mine have been laying over a year and they have not made a mess in the nests.

Hey Gang! Whatcha think of my plans and Rooster issue?

I have a bail of straw hay, but I am out of shavings. the new coop and setting up the brooder ran me out of shavings. Most people use straw in their nest boxes. You can have some of that... Sal
