I put 12 more eggs in the incubator, because I wanted to give it another shot. They won't be hatching until November, but I didn't see a November hatch a long yet. I'm not sure how many are good. I took some out of the fridge and they been in there for a week or so. We shall see.
The original pipped chick passed away. I think it got it's head turned around in the shell and couldn't breath. The egg was pretty small. The other three have pipped and are doing ok so far.
The chick is still working its way out. It's beak is out and there's a half inch long crack. It's peeping up a storm when it's not resting. I'm hoping it'll be out when I get back from classes in a few hours. None of the other three are doing anything that I can see. I hope one of them shows...
I spotted a pip! It's on the underside, so it could've been there earlier. Luckily I did not open the incubator. :-D This is so exciting and nerve wracking at the same time.
It's either today or tomorrow. The ihatch chicken app says today is hatch day. I set them on the 19th, so maybe it's tomorrow they are due. No pipping yet, so we'll see. I've very impatiently waiting. I hate not being able to touch or candle them.
My four eggs are going into lockdown. I'm probably doing it a little too early, as later tonight would probably be more officially day 18, but I didn't think it'd hurt doing it now. They look good to me and all four are alive and well so far. I'm pretty nervous something's going to go wrong at...
So cute!
I upped my temp by a degree. They seem to be growing well and on schedule, but I figured it didn't hurt to raise it a little. 3 more days until lockdown.
I've had my temp at 100.5°f since it's a still air and that's what I originally read it should be at. Now I'm seeing people say 101-102. Should I up the temp? It's day 14, there's only 4 eggs, and I keep them in the center of the incubator, though I do swap their spots around sometimes.
Day 13 and I checked air cells. They are getting bigger, so I assume that's a good sign. The chicks are getting bigger too. I finally tossed the one that wasn't fertile. It definitely had nothing in it. The other four seem healthy and active. Here's hoping they make it to hatch. :-)
