He looks like a carbon copy of one of my roosters here in Florida, only younger and smaller. Very nice.

I would say you have a pullet and cockerel, both sporting white legs. The pullet is showing girly colors and the white bird has a pretty large comb for a pullet.

I hatched 12 Basque chicks yesterday and have 25 more eggs in the incubator. I culled out 3 matured pullets that just didn't show the size that my other gals exhibit. One had turned broody, which is a trait that I select for, but was just too small in size. They are now part of a very colorful...

So very thankful that I have had zero of these leg issues with my flock. Have those of you that have had these issues tried to pin-point a common factor?

x2 I noticed that as well.

Today I picked through what is left of a group I hatched out 3 and 4 weeks ago. 10 boys and 7 girls. I have a local fella coming today for all the pullets. 1 cockerel is super friendly with the best type out of the bunch. His color is looking redder and more rich than the typical creamy color at...

I will have day olds that I can ship out on Monday if anyone has an interest. I'm NPIP and all set up for shipping. I don't have heat packs though. Would like them to go in groups of 10 or more. Should have 25 or so total. PM me if you have an interest.

Hi Mike, Not sure why its worked this way for my flock. But the proof is in the empty feed sacks (fewer of them now) and the lack of spilled food on the coop floor. Its 20% protein too. Maybe that's the catch. I know what you mean about feeling wore out just feeding. I have cut down that...

I have taken steps to lower our feed bill. I buy in bulk at a local mill and get a good discount. I pay $0.22-lb. Biggest issue there is the trip is 90 miles round tip in a gas sucking big truck. I go once a month. Even with the fuel cost, the price is still lower by $3 for 50lbs. I have also...

The Florida eggs came from my flock. Sweet! I had a buyer not pay so I set the eggs after more than a week. All are showing good development. This breed has proven (in my experience) to be VERY hatchable. Good luck and keep us posted (specially with those eggs marked MB)! And thanks again.

The roos were all 14 months old. The heritage RIR was from hatching eggs that I got from EBay. They were ok at best. After doing much research on heritage breeds, I found that none of the old timers knew anything about the "George Ryan Line" that she sells. The color was dark and we had some...

On Friday I processed 3 roosters. A Marraduna Basque, a White Orpington, and aHeritage Rhode Island Red. Both the Marraduna and Orpington (after processing) weighed in at just over 4 LBS. The Rhode Island Red dwarfed them both at 7 LBS. All were just about the same age. It will be interesting...

The pullet up front in the bottom photo has really clean barring. She looks to be of a nice type as well. Good genetics there!

My flock are doing really well. Still laying strong. I'm growing out a gaggle of second generation Skyline and a smaller group of Greenfire. I have been setting eggs in the incubator on another staggered hatch schedule. Taking lots of new pictures. The time is coming for me to build more...

Hi Jerry. You are absolutely correct. The traits you mentioned seem to be very strong in the Eos. One would probably have a hard time selecting against said traits. Any and all mean or overly aggressive animals on my farm go to freezer camp. Hens that don't lay well (that can't be contributed to...

I just finished reading the past 400+ posts that have occurred whilst I have been MIA. My EO flock is busy growing. I have been setting every egg that the girls lay. (Skyline genetics). Also bought some eggs off another NPIP farm and hatched out a few (Greenfire genetics). We currently have 28...

My EO girls started laying in late June. I did a test hatch of 8 eggs and hatched out 5 healthy chicks. One candled clear, one was a quitter, and one internally pipped but never made it further. Overall I'm very happy and have set several more eggs. I love this breed and have a real interest in...
