Congratulations!! Great job!

Bee, I've thought about selling chicks, but my concern is biosecurity of my flock. If people start coming in to look at chicks, then my concern is what diseases might they bring in to my other birds. We have poultry auctions where I live every week, but I don't like taking birds there either...

I have hatched chicks before, but they have never done this.....they must like the dirt.....LOL. I'm not going to make pets out of these either. These are meat birds!

I figure since a broody does, I should too. When I put my hand down into the brooder, they come running....and some of them jump into my hand....then start pecking my age spots and surgery scar........they must think I'm their Mama.

Mine starting hatching Friday, and my 20th one hatched just a few minutes ago. The yellow ones are Bresse, the dark ones are Black and Blue Marans, and I THINK the silvery one in the middle of the bottom photo may be a splash Birchen Marans.....maybe.

Tomorrow at 10 am will be the end of my 21st day...I had one chick pip on the wrong end of the egg and die this morning, and another who hatched today that is all by her lonesome in the brooder....and she isn't happy about it. No external pips in the rest but a lot of rocking and rolling of...
