I guess if you're going to lock down on day 18 you really don't need to worry about it now. I had mine between 65% and 75% during lock down and hatched all 5 eggs I started with. Maybe if you try to hatch at a later time you should try it without water until lock down. Mine stayed around 50%...
I would just wipe them with warm water now and then. I read somewhere not to pry them open when i was looking into it because of ours. I hope they will be fine after a day or two like ours are.
One of our newly hatched chicks had a similar problem; we never once saw it open its eyes. It was second to last to hatch, so we planned to clean its eyes when the remaining chick hatched. When it was picked up, it immediately opened its eyes. We've come to the conclusion that she can open her...
I believe Silkies have 5 toes. Maybe I'm not understanding your post, but this link has a good picture of Silkie feet. Hope it helps.

All five seem to be doing fine. I moved them to the brooder and got them to drink a little water. I got a few pictures. they don't pose very well.
Good luck to everyone that still has eggs hatching!
# 5 just hatched! 5 out of 5 in a 20+ year old still air mouse chewed Hova bator. I say I made out good and lucky.
BTW did anybody see my last post about the stuck shut eyes? Did it ever happen to any of you and what did you do?
I still have one trying to hatch. I also just discovered one seems to have it's eyes stuck shut. It can see because it moves to the light if I shine it in the incubator. I'm trying to wait until the last one hatches before I open it up. I'll try wiping the eyes with warm wet Q tip or something...
So far four out of five eggs hatched. Still waiting on a BR X RIR cross to do something. The other chicks have it rolled into the corner so I can't see it to well. I had three hatch yesterday and one at about 1:30 this morning. Seems they would pip and then wait about 3 to 4 hours and bust out...
I have one zipping or is it unzipping. It's the one that was piped a 3am when I checked. One other is piped and three more have no sign of pipping yet.
Change that one just hatched!!!!!!!!!!!
I've only seen two of five of mine rocking. Of those two one has a very small pip. The first one to pip never rocked that I saw. This hatching stuff takes way to long
Thanks I'll have to look into the Spot-check. I have been using an acu-rite and the regular thermometer that came with the incubator. They have been running very close to the same reading, and then yesterday after lock down the acu-rite dropped way down. That was after I added some warm wet...
