Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

Oh, I know; I wasn't expecting they would be show quality (bought them at TSC), but I was hoping they would be easier to identify. I have a similar looking splash pullet; maybe modern game, too? I'll see if I can get a side view of both of them standing tomorrow. They're so active it's hard to...

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

Really? I had thought early on that she may be because her legs are fairly long, but she doesn't have the extremely upright stance that I usually see with modern games, so then I went to Old English. Do hatchery modern games not have the tall, upright way of standing?

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

Can I get a bit of help from the OEGB community? I got this pullet from a bantam assortment and have been trying ever since she started feathering out to figure out what variety she is. Does she appear to be some type of fawn? It's not showing up well in the pictures, but her head is actually...

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

If it helps you guys, the quail pair I posted is from Ideal. However, these are the only OEGBs that I've ever ordered from them, so I have no idea if this is usual for Ideal or how the quality is in their other OEGB varieties. I do wish they would post actual pictures of their own stock. They...

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

Quote: Thanks for the input! I was wondering about the black. I'd noticed that in the pics of quail birds on the OEGB club site, the roosters tended to have much more black in the hackles than mine. Is it possible that any cockerels I hatch from them could have more black, or is it more likely...

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

Updated pics of my quail pair. Do they look anywhere close to the standard? What needs to be improved? The hen doesn't actually have little white specs on her head; that's just the camera on my cell phone being weird.

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

Quote: They are fairly rare and they are showable. Thank you! That should satisfy my curiosity for a little while.

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

The leg fuzz question reminded me of something else. This has nothing to do with any birds I have; it's just a random wonder I had. There is a picture of a white muffed bird in the variety section on the OEGB club website. Are muffed OEGBs uncommon? I've never seen any outside of that pic on...

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

Quote: Maybe everyone is busy getting ready for winter. I think you're right that your OEGB chick in the bottom picture is a cockerel. The cockerel in my duo of Quail OEGBs made himself known very early; his comb was bigger than the pullet's, but his color helped, too, as he started...

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

Quote: His leg color is white, which is the main reason I thought he was OEGB and not RIR, but I realize his body is off. Maybe he's a mix of some kind.

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

Thanks for all the help! I had a brief hope that I could use him to get some Spangled OEGBs to go with my lone hen, but I guess not. Oh well, I still have my Quail pair to work with.

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

Quote: He is a Black Tailed Red at least on Phenotype(Looks) he seems to carry Db as columbian restrictor and Mahogany as Pheomelanin(re pigment) enhancer... Quote: I think you have things mixed up here buddy.. Spangled OEGB have Mahogany in them, Mahogany is a Red pigment enhancer No...

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

Quote: That's interesting. I did notice that the red on him is very dark, but I hadn't even thought of mahogany. What would come from breeding him to a spangled hen? Would it produce anything besides just random mixed colors? I do really like his color.

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

Quick question for you all: what color would you call this? I know that his quality isn't great, but he was traded to me as a BB Red, which I know he isn't. I've been calling him a Black Tailed Red, but I'm not positive that's what he is, just the closest that I could find color-wise according...

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

Quote: I like your little guy! What color is he: black tailed buff? He looks a lot like my quail rooster, but he doesn't seem to have any patterning. I've been thinking of getting some fawn silver duckwings next year, as well as some blue quail. Anybody have any experience with either? I...

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

Quote: Thanks! I've seen pictures of quail roosters/cockerels with a lot more black in their hackle feathers, so I'm not sure if that's preferred over more gold. I think they're very nice as well. I think quail may be my favorite pattern in OEGBs. I'd like to get some blue quail to work with, too.

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

My 4 month old quail OEGB pair: I don't plan to show them, but I would like to use them for breeding. How do they look, quality wise, to all you OEGB experts? What should I look for if I raise any chicks in the future to help improve on the quality of future generations?

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

Quote: Post some Pics, the hatchery OE are often short on type and color but every now and then you get something worth working with. Lets see what you got. If all else fails you may be able to pick up a nice pair or trio this fall. These pics are kind of old (the chicks were 4 weeks old when...
