That's interesting, because my Cemani pullet is a total boss. She is my most aggressive bird, borderline bully, but not too bad. She keeps the younger/smaller birds in their places. More aggressive around treats. And I wasn't kidding about the bloody lip, she sliced it open. Outgoing, will jump...
I'm vacationing this month but can post any pictures I have on this laptop and then more ASAP once I am back home.
Granted, I am not a breeder. Most of my chickens have names (unless I plan on eating them), and I raise them because I simply enjoy it. I do not have the resources (or the time...
I have a Blue Wheaten Ameraucana rooster over one laying Ayam Cemani. The eggs are hatching dark black chicks (from head to toe-even black toenails). As they grow, they turn more and more purplish... and lay greenish eggs. They're quite gorgeous.
In case anyone is wondering what a cross between an Ayam Cemani and a True Blue Wheaten Ameraucana looks like:
Black or clear toenails... Half seemed to have inherited the beards and fluffy cheeks.
Their skin is super dark, and their legs almost look purple... probably something to...
This is awesome! I totally had someone trying to correct me the other day, telling me that it was pronounced see-mon-ee.
I'm going to send this link.
I don't mind being corrected... but I hate being corrected when I know that I'm right.
I know this isn't much help, but I just wanted to comment on your photos. Your rooster is stunning, and I actually love that "purple" coloring. It's so pretty! He looks absolutely fantastic!
My Cemani chick had toenails like that! Every day that she grows, I swear they're filling in more and more! Her middle toes almost looked white, at first. Now, they're halfway black with clear tips... and the black just keeps filling out.
I am curious as to how that silvery striped chick (upper right corner) will develop. I really like its coloring. I've seen a lot of brownish chipmunk chicks but not that silvery color.
I hatched some Cemani chicks awhile back. My lightest chick, who had a white belly and facial markings and light feet... is actually coming in black. I didn't think the actual skin over the feet would change, but it's gone from mottled to entirely black. Black feathers coming in, too. Interesting.
These are my hens giving me the "stink eye"... so I closed down their private sunbathing deck until I start getting some eggs...
I am mixing layer pellets into their previous feed. Do they touch it? No. They eat around the pellets. So today, I pulled all feeders out and all they have in...
I just wanted to share a pic of Bellatrix, my runt. She is my darkest, but also the smallest. She hatched very late, and her toes needed to be straightened. But after a little TLC and some Band-Aid shoes, she is in tip top shape!
Me so happy!
@cjwaldon, funny comment earlier about the...
VERY interesting! My darkest chick is also the smallest. She hatched very LATE and had a rough first day: seemed weak, couldn't hold herself upright. She kept tipping over onto her back for awhile, longer than I have ever seen. I also took her little shoes off today after having to straighten...
Too funny!
I have two beautiful chicks fully dried off now, more on their way but I couldn't ask for more. I am so happy!
One is SUPER dark! The other, by contrast, has some white on him. Ironically, the baby with white on him has a black mouth (inside) and comb. Which is interesting...
I'm sorry to hear that, HugHess! When I lose them, I tend to lose them early (within the first week), OR Day 18/19. Losing them so late in the game is difficult. When they've already come so far!
What are your Cemani chicks crossed with?
I've been seriously considering a Svart Hona...
Sorry to keep pestering you all with my Ayam Cemani hatch. I'm just so excited, and I desperately want these babies to hatch!
No sign of external pipping yet... but there are soft little peeps coming from my incubator!
I hope everyone's hatches are going well this weekend! I am so stinkin'...
