    The Silver Laced Wyandotte Thread

I know this isn't the right thread for this discussion, but I wanted to say thank you for all the advice on taking care of this problem. I posted a thread months ago, and the issue has only gotten worse. I thing we made greater strides in taking care of the girls today than at any time...

We use Father Fixer feed by Nutrena. That is supposed to prevent mites. It won't treat them if you already have them though. It has something in it that the chicken doesn't absorb, and makes the vent area very unattractive to mites. I am wondering if we already had a start of this when we...

I think the product you speak of may be Blue Kote. I have it as a spray. I have been using this on the bare patches for a while. It keeps them clean, but I am not getting feather growth. And new hens are showing bare patches

Your picture is what caused me to post this morning. It looks exactly like my hens. They get feather fixer feed, plus supplements. The feather fixer is supposed to prevent mites. QUESTION: is the dust used once per day for three weeks, or one day per week three weeks in a row? Should all the...

I too, am interested in the response to this post. I have several hens that have patches like this. I feed feather fixer, and give supplements like cottage cheese. Of my 10 1-2year olds I am getting a max of four eggs. Most look really rough. It has been going on for months. I thought the...

    The Silver Laced Wyandotte Thread

I know this is the wrong thread, but I just had to share. On Sunday I let my chickens out for free range time. That evening when we went to close up the coop, we were short one on head count. I turned on a "trouble light" near the coop door hoping to draw the missing Gold Laced Wyandotte...

I got my first Wyandotte egg from my pullets today! Such a lovely pinkish cream color. Exactly the same as my SLW hen's. I wish I knew if it was from the SLW, or one of the two GLW's. I will have to sneak down to the coop this weekend and see if I can catch one of them on the nest. The...

Delisha, and Dracoe19, Thank you for your help. Hopefully with time and patience they will settle in. I just try to remember that this is all new, and not introduce too many new experiences each day. We pulled out the calf mana, and I will add it to their food in the morning. Our last ditch...

Delisha, Thank you for your words. It has been a tough day for the new pullets. They are door mats. They will not run, or do anything to protect themselves. My nine 12 week olds got through the barrier, and were in with the three newbies. They just lay there and took the attack. Got...

Help! I may have over extended my wyandotte allowance! Is that possible? The breeder said that they are like potato chips. I have one adult SLW. I have one pullet to be her buddy. Plus two GLW'S. Yesterday we were in a nearby town for an open water swim race (hubby), and I found an ad for...

My SIL lays a light pink/tan egg. My two RIR's lay my medium brown eggs with speckles. My SIL is very particular. If the nest box has too many eggs, or a hen laying, she will lay on the floor of the coop. I have three chickens right now, and 5 nest boxes. She is very choosy.

Congratulations! Maybe a silly question, but it's the development of red comb and wattles signal the start of egg paying? In all breeds? How long after? Thanks

Those three pics were taken at 4 weeks. She has a bit more white now. I don't remember my other two having that pronounced white on the shoulders last year. Very striking. Thanks for helping with this. I think the biggest worry is that you care for them day in and day out, then find out you...
