Hi!
Once upon a time I posted on this thread! Thanks for the invite back, Arielle!
I have Splash Marans who didn't lay for three months. Just got three nice eggs from one hen finally this week. Good size and color for Splash!
Added some Double laced blue barnevelders I raised from chicks...
Thanks! she is starting to eat from my hand and relax when I pick her up, so I am pleased.
Here are my Splash Marans chicks at 5 weeks. Tell me if you think #3 is a roo, please??

Thanks Jeremy and Medicine Man. The white neck stuff looks more pronounced to me, but it also just seemed to magically appear one day! ARGH. I got the eggs (a nice #7 color) up here in Sonoma County from a guy who started his BCM flock from a pair of SQ BCM's (Sonoma County fair BOC...

As these are all boys, I am not investing myself with any emotional attachment. The one pullet I will keep to see the egg color. They all hatched from gorgeous dark brown eggs, so this is such a bummer.

Looks like you have a couple of birchen hens. They can come from blackcoppers.

Sorry-couldn't help myself.
When i popped onto the dark eggs breed thread because of the variety in colors in the Splash Marans babies (yellow, pale yellow, grey, and yello/grey mottled they had a long...
Cheryl, sorry to hear about your migraine (I'm a migraine girl, too, bummer for us!). Probably stress from your dad in the hospital, you know?
Don't you have a couple of Speckled Sussex pullets you'd like to sell me? That will make you feel better...

Yes, thanks for the explanation. i didn't know splash chicks could out out with such color differences!
Well, I guess we are done hatching. (We meaning mama!) One egg just didn't go, and the other looks like a turtle egg. See below. Can anyone tell me what happenedwith that one...

Thanks for the tips. I will try that with these Splash Marans babies. Any idea about the differences in color? Here are three colors I have hatched out today so far. I was expecting the greyish...not the pale yellow and brighter yellow. These are supposed to be Blue Splash...
The two dark eggs are from my RIR! Incredible, but they are just as dark as the Wellie eggs, which are speckled. (Not as dark as the Splash Marans I ordered, except numbers 8-9-10, and not as dark as the local BCM eggs I bought, but dark, nonetheless! Brahma eggs are the 10 and 2 o'clock. (I...
Cheryl, I got ten of those Splash Marans eggs, as I told you, and my broody has broken two of them--i think trying to keep the other hens off her nest. I am sad. I think i will move her into the broody cage sooner than I wanted due to this. I'll have to kick out mama and chicks, but I have...
Mama hatching my BCMs, 4/5 who are out today! (Hoping for the pipped one tomorrow..)
Here is the color comparison: shells of BCM hatched, smallish first Wellsummer egg, and a Brahma egg to compare to...
I should have put in my RIR egg, as hers is about as dark as the Wellie's!
