I haven't seen snow since around 1999. But snow it did. Just for fun, the flock in the snow. It'd already half melted by this time. They didn't seem to mind it one bit. One on the right and the one in the middle with it's head up are 4 months.

If she's starting to lay, and you have a rooster, she'll likely be accepted soon. I have one now that was raised 'on the fringe' - mostly alone and not accepted in the flock but she did hang around the edges often. Once she started to lay and that boy became.. really interested, she got to be...

I think it's funny to give them peanuts in the shell and see who learns to break them open and who doesn't. I had some I grew and walked on a few to give them the idea but only about half learned they could do it themselves.

I don't think I've been to BYC in more than a week. But Johhnn, your pictures of your birds, especially Bella, always bring such a smile to my face!!! So sorry about the one you lost. And so happy to hear you took our baby, Bella, to the vets!

Only one that will peck me is Momma when she has babies. OH BOY if I get near them she will grab hold of my skin so hard you can hear the "click" of her beak clicking back together when I pull loose. She's left bruises. But that's the only time and I do nothing but try to avoid it cause she's...

I had that problem with a light weight saddle. Then I got one made with a liner that is almost like canvas, and it works great. Won't use them when it's hot though. Thankfully they're in full molt during cool weather. Also I learned that you must make sure they're long enough. Lualshannon's are...

So true! Even my rooster - he has never, ever given me a reason to distrust him. Never. Whether around strangers and even small children. He'd never hurt a flea.

Thing is, I never remember seeing Tonea posting it. Though I'm probably mistaken. But I do remember Vickie posting it. I knew it wasn't technically Vickie's but had no one else to credit it to! At least you get the point. A well bred breeder Buff Orpington is indeed a great companion and chicken...

As I said, it was NOT MY PICTURE. But genuine all the same and if someone contested me posting it I'd have taken it down. Still, you can't argue the point: That well bred birds are friendly. My rooster from a breeder (same breeder as the hen in that photo, thedragonlady), I'd trust with any...
