I wanted to share an article that came to my inbox today from another poultry blog I follow....http://www.countrysidemag.com/issues/96/96-2/chicken_crimes.html

Yes, all of my breeding stock of birds came from Hoovers Hatchery or Cackle Hatchery I think. I say I think on Cackle because it is my Dels and my friend ordered them for us and they and we went back and forth between several hatcheries. The eggs that I am incubating to hatch chicks out of are...

If all of my birds as chicks came from hatcheries that are NPIP certified, does that mean my birds are ok then? As you can tell this is all new to me. I have never given this whole thing a thought until now. The only birds I have that are not from NPIP hatcheries are my Muscovy ducks, I have 5...

How much money are we talking? I had one person tell me that brand new chicks were too young to be tested for the sale but I am not sure if that is true either.

How many of you are NPIP? I am wondering if it is necessary. The only reason this came up is that I am going to maybe hatching out some layer chicks to sell at the Winterset sale coming up in April. Not show birds, just backyard layers. Some will be purebreds, my Delwares from hatchery birds...

Can someone explain what is involved in NPI certification for your flock? I was just told that someone just had to plumera test (sp) my flock, send in the paperwork and then I get my number, is that correct? I know a tester who could do it. Is that really all there is to it?

I didn't want to post that whole thing that I just tried to post. Let me see if there is a way I can get the thing I wanted to post.

Poultry show like Stuart and Osceola in Winterset on April 14th. I think I saw this in the Exchange. You can find the Exchange online too. It would be in Section B.

We only want 2 of them. So we are going to have to find some pretty local I think. I was told just today that a farm store that is near us will be selling them.

We are thinking about getting a couple of turkeys to raise to butcher later this year. What do I need to be looking for? Any particular breed or anything?

I only sell to a couple different people I know also but if I ever wanted to sell more I kinda wondered what all the rest of you do. I always make sure the eggs they get are clean but I haven't been cleaning them.

I was reading an ad on CL today and saw several things in an ad I found interesting. The one I am not concerned about because I am not going to sell dressed poultry. The other thing was about selling eggs in IA. For those of you who sell eggs do you know anything about the following quote...

He doesn't look too bad for a hatchery bird. Hoping to get some new one later this spring. I love this breed so far.
