Don't do it!!!!! Those are coming out of China and the wood used on them is so dry and brittle....not to mention thin. Money wasted in my opinion. When I first got started with chickens I bought the "cutest" chicken coop and run setup. Oh, the pictures were great, price was, too. When my...
Now how cute is THAT?!!!! Picture perfect with the snow and your Christmas lights! You should use that pic for Christmas cards! Thanks for sharing...I wish you all the very best!
Amen to that one, sister!! I had my brooder bin in my living room, too. Trouble is....I LIVE IN AN RV!!! A big RV, but still an RV. Oh, it was fine at first with the Rubbermaid tub thing, but soon they had graduated to a big box. Had to put it on the floor in front of the TV credenza and 'walk...

Absolutely adorable! I love it! I do have one question. That small coop on the end of the run...I see the welded wire but is it buried into the ground? Raccoons will find it easy to get in under there.
Very nice for sure! Two things, however:
1. As you live in Wisconsin and get brutal cold, not to mention snow, have you put up plastic greenhouse sheeting around the run area? This will keep blowing snow and cold winds off them...you'll find they'll spend more time in the run that way. Be sure...
Are you saying then that you're planning on expanding to a 4' x 8' coop for 10 Black Australorps? A 4x8 coop equals 32 sq.ft. Large breed girls such as BA's (which is what I have also) really need a minimum of 3-5 sq.ft. per bird. I would say that only 7-8 birds would fit comfortably in that...
If you live in Alabama, and while there is an occasional 'cold snap' during the winter, your chickens don't need heat!!! Case in point:
Twelve chicks and 8 hens were lost in this fire...don't become a statistic with your own...JMHO...
Oh, I wasn't concerned with the cold...it's the heat of spring/summer, I'd think it would get pretty 'toasty' in there even with that open doorway...wishing you all the best!
VERY nice build! You should be proud. I see that you are in Mississippi...is the only ventilation those long/thin air strips up at the top of the coop? With the humidity and heat you get I would suggest one or two windows for good air circulation...just thinkin'
Nice build! Chickens do well down to around -20. The cold isn't what will get them, it's drafts and high humidity. With that said, I see 2 windows from your picture...are there any ventilation 'holes' up high along the top rim? They need fresh air, but no drafts directly on them...whereabouts is...
